Situated behind the Hellenic Museum in the CBD, Grounds of Arcadia serves up authentic Greek cuisine with amazing hospitality and spirit. A beautiful venue, surrounded entirely by windows allowing an amazing amount of natural light into the large room. Furnished with gorgeous marble tables and bistro chairs; the overall look is chic and elegant. We were welcomed by lovely staff and given a history of this beautiful new restaurant. Bringing amazing Greek flavours to the city is their agenda, and our experience was to prove them successful. We were able to try some delicious Greek rosé from their fabulous selection of Greek wines, and along with some olives, freshly cooked pita and perfect tzatziki. One of my favourite Greek foods is tzatziki, and this version was fresh, light and zingy. The pita was perfectly charred, and made for an amazing start. For mains we selected the roast chicken and roast lamb, and we discovered that we were in for a treat. The chicken was juicy with crispy skin, and a delicious flavour. With it’s grain salad on the side, it was a generous dish for lunch, but still not heavy at all. The roast kamb was everything we wanted and more. Perfectly succulent meat, with so much flavour from the Greek herbs. The meat could be cut away with a spoon, it was that tender, and it melted in the mouth. Greek meat at it’s best.As a sweet tooth, I couldn’t go past the galaktoboureko with it’s scented syrup and heavenly custard. The chocolate covered orange slice was a nice touch, and this dessert was silky and decadent. I paired it with a proper Greek coffee which was rich and dark with loads of flavour. An awesome finish to a truly delicious lunch.Grounds of Arcadia is a hidden gem that is worth seeking out. Once you enter the gardens behind the museum, you will discover this gorgeous venue and you will be taken on a delicious journey. With such a fabulous location, friendly and knowledgeable staff and truly delicious Greek cuisine, Grounds of Arcadia is a delight from start to finish.Thank you for hosting us.

I really enjoyed the saucy meatballs, served with a generous side of pita bread, as well as the roasted pumpkin which was browned deliciously with a hint of sweetness. The most unexpected dish was the beetroot and root vegetable pastry roll, which was perfect in every aspect from presentation, to taste and also texture. After a wide array of mezzo dishes, we enjoyed only one main between the two of us, being the slow roasted lamb. This was a very robust dish, strong in aroma and flavour, representing a thoroughly satisfying end to the meal. I can’t wait to return to sample the desserts at another time.

Housed in the majestic former Royal Mint building, the Hellenic Museum, home to Australia’s most comprehensive collection of Greek art and antiquities, now boasts the city’s newest Greek restaurant – Grounds of Arcadia. In the leafy surrounds of the museum’s courtyard garden – one of only two of its kind in the city, the other being located at the Melbourne Club – sits Sean Godsell’s original multi award-winning MPavilion reimagined as an indoor-outdoor restaurant space. The menu is prepared using bespoke wood-fired ovens and paired with indigenous Greek wine varietals, beers and spirits.
