Guhng used to be far better value for money than it is now. Over the years it has increased in price drastically, to the point where I find it very difficult to justify coming here instead of the multitude of other Korean BBQ places in Melbourne. We’re talking about pretty generous set menus starting at $30+ per person, to the $70+ they’re asking for now. The service and ambience here are nice, and the quality of food is good, but yea, not that good.

That said, we used to like aspects of the set menu such as the red rice they serve instead of white rice, as well as the beautifully plated desserts like the pannacotta and black sesame ice-cream inside a chocolate cylinder, which last we checked, they no longer serve.

Always wanted to go here because it looks fancy. Huge dining area from downstairs, ground level and to upper floors. We were seated in a private area. Really nice and ordered a few dishes from the a la carte, unfortunately I forgot to take photos of the food.
Jap chae dishes as smaller than expected. Kim Chi pancake was a little more eggy than flour. Its not a bad thing, Im just not use to it. fried chicken was beautifully crispy on the outside and shredded breast in the inside – one of my favourites. We also had the mushroom with glass noodle hot pot. The flavour of the soup base was mild. It was my least favourite dish.
We also ordered bbq set on pork and beef. They were good but much of the pork was very fatty. I didnt enjoy some of the bbq because I was just eating fat but marinated in their sauce.

Service was good, after a few requests of more Kim Chi side dishes the waiters knew and kept refilling complimentary Kim Chi and water for us.

Overall, it wasnt a perfect kbbq. But I enjoyed myself with some good authentic Korean dishes from the a la carte menu.
