This Turkish cafe in the CBD has mostly flown under the radar from diners, mostly due to its concealed location. They share a communal area with a few other restaurants nearby serving up a brunch style Turkish fare. The staff brought to our table a generous plate of mixed nibbles. This was apparent with all the diners, I particularly liked the dried chickpeas which had the consistency of chalk.I got their menemen (Turkish baked eggs) which had a base of stewed tomatoes and peppers. The eggs were nice and runny and it came with some soldiers to mop up the sauces. The bread wasn’t my favourite due to its dryness but I did enjoy the sucuk on the side (additional) which had been pan fried and was slightly mild, I’d aliken it to a chorizo.I finish off with a Turkish coffee paired with some Turkish delight. They played off each other nicely, the bitter and the soft sweetness. It was quite murky on the bottom but that was my mistake due to inexperience. The owner was happy explaining this to me that I should never finish the coffee, he even offered me a new one on the house! I respectfully declined but really appreciated his enthusiasm and making us feel at home.
Moving to the city is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made (other than marrying my wife of course). There are so many wonderful things to see and do literally right around the corner from where we live. As a foodie, I love that there is a new restaurant or cafe to visit every week!. Kardo opened pretty recently on Little Collins street near Southern Cross Station. It is slightly hidden away in a arcade but they seem to already have a loyal customer base, due to their friendly service and excellent food.
