Came here with my friend to have a quick snack. Both snack came to us in perfect temperatures and taste. I would really like to recommend this place to everyone.

Probably will be one of my favorite snack place in the future.

Definitely coming back for more items.

With a prime location next door to Hoyts Cinema in Melbourne Central this is going to be a convenient choice for many. The Taste of Shanghai group is big in Sydney and they’ve decided to see if they can make a dent in Melbourne’s already well established dumpling market.

I order a drink, mint and lychee juice. Just a combination you can’t get wrong and is very refreshing.

We start off with some drunken chicken which had been marinating in Shao Hsing wine and served cold. Very flavoursome and a great appetiser, just don’t expect the texture of the chicken to be fresh as this had been prepared way in advance.

Their XLB was okay, not the most delicate or soupy dumplings out there. Their pan fried pork buns however had plenty of broth with a pork ball inside. The dough was very fluffy and did well with a bit of vinegar and chilli oil (upon request). Their wontons in chilli sauce were pretty spicy, the wrapper wasn’t your standard egg based one but was white (eggless), Shanghai style. Therefore it wasn’t as rich but the filling was enjoyable with plenty of chives.

We also get their diced chicken fried rice with XO sauce (I swear it wasn’t my choice). Very standard, what made it was the XO sauce which had a lovely fragrance and was mildy spicy.

We also got Sichuan style shredded pork & lotus leaf pancake wraps. It’s DIY stuffing as much of that filling into the bao. Very tasty, sweet, sour, spicy and a little crunchy from the lotus. The bao itself was decent, not the fluffiest or lightest bao out there. We had plenty of filling left over and combined it with the fried rice, yum.

Can Melbourne have enough dumpling restaurants? With all the queues outside on a Friday night I’d say not yet, more competition is always healthy. Lots of dishes on offer here where you can extend out of your basic dumpling order.

    Polite Caution: ITS BOILING HOT!
Shen jian bao:. tasted like having a pork bun with crispy skin at the bottlm and chewy soft skin on top combined! lovin it!
XLB:. The dumpling skin was a slightly thick.
Pork Lard Fried Rice: Rice wasnt oily surprisingly but it was dry. Still like texture but my companion found it a little too hard.
Overall the food was still enjoyable and service was attentive, not complaining on that.
For 2 persons cost under $50, thats because XLB was at half price. In saying that there are places which offers a better price point but with subpar service. Guess theres a price to pay for warm service. Agree?

We were lucky to be invited to check out the new dumpling and chinese restaurant in Melbourne Central. Located on level 3 next to Hoyts and Party World. We had the standard pan fried pork dumplings, xiao long bao and pork bun dumplings. All of the dumplings were tasty and juicy.

We also had half a Peking Duck which includes Fried Udon noodles with duck meat. Although the Peking duck was slightly on the drier side the noodles were tasty. Would love to see an improvement in the duck. The presentation of the dishes were done well and the service was good. The staff were attentive.

Located in Melbourne Central next to Hoyts, Lilong’s adds quality and vigour to the otherwise bustling, loud scene in the food court downstairs.

    Ordered:
    Xiao long bao (8pcs): $12.00
Pan fried pork buns (8pcs): $12.00
Pork and prawn small wonton (12pcs): $9.80
Wonton in red chilli sauce (10pcs): $12.00
    Steamed vegetarian dumplings (8pcs): $10.80

    Review:
We thought our 5 dishes would be too much (only 4 pictured here) but we somehow managed to demolish it all!
Lilong is quite new, the vibes are lit and the service a little touch and go.

However, when the dumplings are this plentiful and feeds your cravings – it’s a not bad experience at all.

As the other reviewers were saying: there’s a special right now where the XLB’s are 50% off when you spent more than $25.00 – which is honestly not hard to do if you’re at Lilong for a meal.

Tonight before seeing a film at the Japanese Film Festival, my friend and I decided to try Lilong. I recommend visiting Lilong as soon as possible since currently they have a 50% off deal with the xiaolongbao when you spend $25!

Out of all the dumplings we ordered the xiaolongbao was my favourite. Wish the broth inside had been a bit hotter but besides from that we couldnt criticise the xiaolongbao.

The wontons in chilli oil were a huge disappointment. Not spicy, no chilli seeds and the dumpling wrapping tasted horrible and unusual. China Red still does the best chilli wontons, thats for sure!

We also tried the cutter fish and prawn dumplings. They looked so cute, wrapped up in seaweed! Lets nickname them sushi dumplings! However they werent that nice.

The highlight and saving grace of this venue was the spicy eggplant dish! Delicious! I would recommend ordering non dumpling dishes here since thats where Lilong excels at! Plus they have cheap cocktails!

The nice and taste Shanghai-style restaurant located in Melbourne center. Strongly introduce steam pork bun and panfry pork bun, which has a strong flavor and amazing food.
