Nong Tang Noodle House is a small and humble restaurant serving traditional Shanghai cuisine and other Chinese delights. Weve passed it multiple times before but never really got around to trying it until recently. We decided to grab takeaway for lunch the next day from here, and got a Fried Pork Chop on Rice and the Stir Fried Rice with Seafood in XO Sauce.
The fried rice was nice, but nothing too over the top. However, the fried pork chop rice was very delicious and flavourful, despite not being crispy anymore after leaving it to the next day. The pork chop is cut into thin strips which makes it convenient to eat too.
Nong tang noodle house 5/5
Food: 5/5 the dumplings here are exquisite! With so many other places around they have to be absolutely quality to get my tick of approval but even the veggie ones here are some of the best Ive had. The pork and prawn dumplings were a highlight and a great recommendation by the waiter, as well as the fried veggie dumplings and the dumplings in chilli oil. We had the dry mushroom house made noodles and the beef flat rice noodles – both beyond delicious and absolutely polished off by the end. The fried rice was extremely flavoursome and the honey chicken is one of the best Ive had with a fresh crispy outside. The tofu side dish is jam packed with yumminess and no matter how much we complained about how full we were, we still cleaned up everything purely because of how delicious it was.
Ambiance 5/5: tucked away in an outdoor mall off Bourke street this place is surprisingly bustling and filled with people. The restaurant is clean and has a fun feel to it – perfect to come with friends after work for a quite bite
Service 5/5: we were welcomed in as soon as we arrived and straight away had water and were able to order some drinks. The food cake quickly and the staff were great with providing suggestions and extremely accommodating to dietary requirements.
Fun fact: there is a menu of noodle dishes that are made in house and each one can be served in soup, dry or cold!
I have never heard of this place until today but will definitely return. Right next to Shandong mama and this place is cheap/cheerful and the service is friendly. A variety of relatively simple dishes so it felt like the place was catering for the Western palate. Highlights: dumplings were pretty good but they are HOT so watch your mouth. Lowlights: the tables are really close together so try not to have any awkward dating conversations.
Got the Shanghai traditional pork dumplings Pan fried and the skin was so thick and not as crispy that I didn’t finish half the plate. The filling however was nice when dipped in vinegar.
Came here for the launch of the new menu, and it was AMAZING. We sat down and had a 10-course meal, you can tell that they’re experts in this field because everything was amazing. I’ll definitely be coming back with friends the next time I’m in the city.
