Was a 5 then downgrade to a 3. Ordered the pineapple fried rice, chicken boat noodles, pandan coconut layer crepe cake, taro layer crepe cake and two Thai milk teas from Uber eats.
This was my late dinner at 10pm and I just wanted a satisfying tasty and filling dinner. This restaurant was all this so it deserved a 5.
My partners pineapple fried rice was really tasty, the flavour I liked in the fried rice. Some restaurants put too much turmeric in it or made it taste like a curry rice but this one was great.
My boat noodles was actually not that good but it was maybe because I didn’t like the smell of the pork bone broth which had a bit of a sweet taste to it but regardless, it was very rich and flavourful. The noodles when poured into the soup immediately was soaked and became very flavourful which not a lot of broths can do.
The crepe cakes OMG it was already looking really good with the layers and once you pour on the extra thick cream on top, it just made the cake taste so nice! The taro one had a taro thick cream on top and the pandan had a salty coconut cream.
The milk teas was also pretty good. It didn’t have this weird Thai milk tea taste that can be so overpowering in some drinks and it actually tasted great. But beware if you eat the cake first, your taste buds will not be able to taste the sweetness in the Thai milk tea after. Even though the cake wasn’t that sweet itself.
Update 28/12/2018 – 3 stars after I visited in person. The thai milk tea is still really nice there, but the pineapple fried rice with crispy pork belly was tasteless and dry.
Food 5/5: delicious and authentic Thai food filled with flavour and yumminess. The prawn spring rolls are amazing, filled with actual prawn and the son in law eggs are the perfect starter. We tried the Thai ice tea and lemon ice tea – both delicious and refreshing to accompany the food. The beef noodle dish was surprisingly good but the stand out was the fried rice with prawns and pineapple and the pork. Whatever you do you should 100% get the crepe dessert no matter how full you are. Its extremely soft and fluffy and the coconut ice cream served with it is exactly like the ones you get in Thailand.
Service 5/5: the waiters and waitresses are extremely smiley and friendly and I especially liked their offer to serve everything at once or staggered – whichever wed prefer!
Ambiance 5/5: the restaurant is big and always has people in there – a testament to how good it is. The vibe is relaxed and family friendly or perfect to come with friends for dinner.
Fun fact: you can get pineapple fried rice served in a pineapple!
Truly and utterly so disappointed!! Came here for lunch seeing as they had some reasonably priced lunch options. I ordered the pineapple fried rice (which was pictured in a pineapple); unfortunately, the pineapple that was in the rice was quite tart and sour (most likely cooked separately in an uneven manner). The dish itself, although a classic, timeless and simple dish was surprisingly not executed satisfactorily; the rice had an uncomfortably soft texture, with the egg- having not been thoroughly cooked- gave the rice a ‘wet’ taste.
My parents both ordered prawn pad thai noodles, however, the saltiness of the dish was extremely overpowering. Additionally, the taste didn’t hold the much ‘Thai’ authenticity, tasting heavilyof added MSG in place of spices and herbs.
We spoke to the manager shortly after who considered that our feedback would be relayed onto the chefs. I hope they’ve made some changes since then, however, we will not be making a return trip back, and would not recommend to my friends/family.
Another new Thai restaurant in the heart of Melbourne.
While service was reasonable, the size of the dishes were disappointingly small.
The vegetarian Pad Thai was serviceable while the boat noodle was tasty but with mildly disconcerting amounts of fat in the meat.
With competition intensifying due to other new Thai options in town, @Siam has got its work cut out for it.
@Siam Thai is a fairly newly opened Thai restaurant right on Bourke Street. We often eat Thai food and thoroughly enjoy the cuisine so we were very excited.
We started the meal off with the Thai milk tea which was very creamy and satisfying. We also ordered the chicken curry puffs which were crispy on the outside and had a delicious filling on the inside, these golden puffs had flaky pastry and was a great start to the meal.
For mains we ordered the boat noodles, pineapple fried rice, bbq pork neck a stir fry with pork belly. The boat noodles had a really fragrant broth and great flavour, very similar to pho but with different aromatics.
The pineapple fried rice was a favourite especially due to the fact I believe pineapple belongs in everything ! The pineapple was sweet and in large chunks, the rice had some sort of curry flavour throughout which we liked . We paired this with the pork belly stir fry which had a lot of strong flavours like garlic, soy and a hint of chilli.
The pork neck was also a very delicious and generous dish, the neck was extremely tender and the bbq flavour made the meat smokey and mouth watering
For dessert we ordered the pandan and cocout crepe cake, this is my all time favourite Thai dessert. The crepe is layered with cream and served with coconut ice cream, although it is a heavy dessert it also feels very light and I can easily eat 10 in one go . This was very similar to the one at Jinda Thai which I love !
Thanks so much for having us !
Another Thai restaurant in the CBD. The prawn spring rolls to start were a little tasteless and perhaps deep fried a little too much. The beef salad was great with a generous portion of beef. The pork belly fried rice worked well with the green chicken curry. Unfortunately, management only had 1 waitress on a Saturday evening and it was her first night, so she was running around like a headless chook and not getting much done.
Came here for lunch , portion was quite small but I guess because of price . Ice lemon tea was nice and a good deal. Average green chicken curry. Nothing special.
