There’s two sections to this restaurant – Japanese bbq section and sushi train end. On this occasion my friend and I chose Japanese bbq. Upon entry we were instantly greeted and seated, although the place was empty when we arrived.
There’s a special lunch menu available till 2pm but we did not opt for that. The bbq menu is quite extensive. You can order set courses or single dishes.
One of my favourite sushi trains in Melbourne!
The wait was around 30-40 mins which wasn’t too bad for a Friday night at 7pm, there is always a line for this place no joke! Staff are extremely prompt and nice. Didn’t get the whole sushi train experience as we were seated next to the windows, ordering through their iPad system but I didn’t mind it because I could request some dietary requirements and see their full menu. The service was also extremely fast too, I was so amazed because it was ridiculously busy. The food itself is also pretty high quality stuff, super fresh and cooked items were cooked well!
Would definitely come back and recommend to others!

Tetsujin channels the energy and atmosphere of a bustling Tokyo izakaya, reimagined for its location in upscale CBD shopping centre, Melbourne Emporium.
At the front of the venue, behind an irregular arch of geometric white timber lines, Tetsujins cheap and cheerful sushi train is light and bright with floor to ceiling windows, marble countertops and white hoop lights suspended neatly from the ceiling. As we walk through to the barbecue section of the restaurant, the atmosphere shifts to an industrial-looking space complete with glowing neon signs and walls plastered with blocky Japanese graphics.
Like a true izakaya, drinks seem to have equal importance at Tetsujin with a serious 19-page beverage menu, which includes beer, cocktails, spirits and a rainbow assortment of special sake towers in flavours like green apple, raspberry and pistachio. For those in the mood for a tropical holiday (thats me!), try the ice cold watermelon soju filled with
Fresh food, attentive staff, bucketloads of variety, all at your fingertips.
Oh, and the special drinks and the cocktails are great.
‘Tetsujin 28’/10.
Delicious sushi train in a nicely designed space. This place is definitely not cheap – it all adds up quickly!
There were heaps of colourful and creative looking hand rolls, nigiri, and desserts: kind of hard to know where to start or how to choose! You can also order things to be made on a screen allocated to you, which was great: took some of the guesswork out of it!

The sushi train was nice- a lot of variety and you can order off the touch screen. Food was fresh and made on the spot. There are tables behind the restaurant as well for larger groups and for BBQ. I didn’t really like the BBQ as the meat were small portions and wasn’t as tasty.
This is an interesting place above the Emporium. It is divided into 2 sections – one for the sushi train, the other for Japanese BBQ (which looks very similar to Korean BBQ). You are always greeted by a chorus of Japanese welcoming phrases from the staff when you enter.
For today, we sat by the busy looking sushi train and helped ourselves to a variety of fresh sushis in all shapes and sizes. The iPad beside each table was a handy way to purchase cooked to order dishes such as udon, fried chicken or even potato chips (my fave!).
Do note that there is a 10% surcharge on public holidays and there are signs everywhere to indicate this.
Staff are always run off their feet but are usually able to project a friendly vibe.
All aboard the Tetsujin sushi train!
