First time I’ve been in after it’s renovation. Not overly busy but that suited us just fine. Upstairs is a function space and the back of downstairs was cordoned off. The English bartender was friendly and chatty and the beer was cold! Sweet potato fries were a decent serving size.
The Oxford scholar has been the place where RMIT students and CBD corporates have been coming for years. Recently they have had a revamp and the décor creates a new and exciting place for drinks and good food. The Oxford Scholar Hotel – salmon poke bowl. The poke bowl had a beautifully cooked piece of salmon with a soy glaze served over soba noodles with a sesame dressing. There was a dollop of creamy avocado and lots of colourful pickled vegetables mixed through.
The Oxford Scholar has re-opened its doors to the public after an extensive face-lift. It’s a new chapter for this treasured RMIT landmark which now boasts a significant increase in capacity with the modernised ground floor now licensed for up to 280 patrons. The Oxford Scholar’s history stretches back to the 19th century: its site at the northern-end of Swanston St has existed since the Victorian gold rush when it was surrounded by tobacco warehouses and popular with local workers before booming as a student watering hole in the 1960s.
Chill bar x eatery on swanston. The place is pretty nice, with dim lighting and boozy, chatty vibe. Was here for an event so I got to try some of their small dishes.Their salmon poke bowl is actually yummy, I like all the components put in the bowl, worked really well together. Just tad bit salty. The cola braised beef burger was yummy, soft brioche bun with juicy meat, it was a flavour punch!Pulled pork tortilla was quite good as well, flavor was there, though there wereKatafi King Prawns was good as well, the shrimp size was quite big and had a nice bite, the nets surrounding it were crispy though it was just tad bit oily. The sauce was a good condiment!Lastly, the cripsy tofu curry was alright. The curry was definitely lacking flavour and any spice, and there was no tofu in my bowl so I couldn’t really say much.Overall I think the place has pretty solid food offerings with good vibe, PS RMIT associates get 15% discount!( follow for more!✨)xx,joelle
