Very very best yumcha!
I love all food here and been there many many times but never got disappointed ! Perfect location and quality food here! You have to try every thing here! Will go back soon!
Melbourne is blessed with some terrific yum cha restaurants, unfortunately Tim Ho Wan is not one of them. Whilst the menu is relatively the same as the overseas branches, the flavours don’t match up. Even the iconic baked BBQ pork bun is a different shape and the flavours come across blander compared to the one I had overseas. Overall the food was ok whilst not exceptional. There are simply much better alternatives in this city.
We have been here a few times now and it seems like things are improving. Our first visit many moons ago was so underwhelming that we decided to stay away for awhile. Back then, the food was cold and the service was non existent.
Now that the hype and crowds have died down, the service has picked up and our most recent visit was quite pleasant.
This place is a lot pricier than other yum cha restaurants but it’s worth venturing here to try some of their signature dishes. In particular, those sexy pork buns with a perfect thin crust as a dome on a bun which encases pieces of saucy pork.
The pork liver cheong fun had a slightly strong taste so it may not be everyone’s cup of tea. We enjoyed the wantons swimming in a light, clear broth which went really well with those tiny parcels of delight. The sticky rice was wrapped nicely in leaves and well cooked through.
As for dessert, the mango pudding was not too sweet, had a lovely consistency and was a nice epilogue to our entire meal.
So if you have a craving for yum cha after the sun has set, this is probably the only place in Melbourne where you can have yum cha for dinner!
Good dumpling place… almost all dumplings are yummy… prawn dumpling, beef ball with beancurd skin, golden tofu, Vermicelli roll are all delicious… they serve quite fast, suitable if we are already very hungry….
No queue when we visited on a Sunday at about 6.15pm. Orders were taken quickly and food came out one after another, piping hot. Food quality is same as the outlet I had in Sydney and Singapore. Today ordered a special dish which was fried spinach tofu with some truffle stuff as seasoning. Tofu was tender and it was fried to perfection. Other dishes were good. No misses.
Dimsum?
Ambience: The place is bright and quite spacious, i like how we it’s surrounded by floor to ceiling windows.
Service: Service was okay. Food took quite a while, and getting one’s attention can be pretty hard. We had to queue for 15 mins too before being seated.
Food: The word i would use to describe them is disappointing. The radish cake was mushy and bland, siuw mai was sadly tiny and tasted below average, pig stomach rice paper rolls were just okay, the only good ones was the lava bomb but even so it was too oily and could do morr fillings, i liked the mochi texture tho and the filling was yummy. Had hot Barley and it was quite good, mostly just the water though.
It’s definitely one of the worst dimsums I’ve had all around the world, which is really surpising knowing this is Tim Ho Wan.
Price: for the size and quality i think it’s not worth it.

Tim Ho Wan received so much hype when they first opened in Melbourne. We have been here a couple times and feel it’s a little overrated. Food is generally pretty good but not worth lining up for it. The baked bbq pork bun is yummy and it is our favourite. But everything else was alright. Nothing mind blowing though.
