With our world’s diversity of foreign tongues, there is a language we can all understand… food. At Top Tongue, their menus are a hybrid of traditional and modern dishes that may surprise or be questioned by customers. Greeted by friendly and proactive staff, I walked into this bright and contemporary interior which was a refreshing ambiance to a Chinese (Sichuan) restaurant. Guided by a photo flip to view parts of the menu, they appear to offer many traditional dishes, As a traditionalist diner, I was quite surprised when my sweet and sour pork strip dish arrived; no vegetables, no pineapples just pork, sauce and steamed rice. Despite alarm bells ringing in my head, as I bit into the pork, I experienced a delicious, tender and well cooked dish but left me curious to experience other dishes. Overall, service and staff were excellent, cooking technique were good, for diners that know some of the dishes on offer, you may be prepared to experience dishes that are not so traditional.
Very authentic flavours, but their signature dish (the skewers in spicy soup) isnt great value. They also kept warning me that its really spicy like I couldnt hack it… slightly annoying I went there for the spiciness. The soup is $5 and you have to order a minimum of 5 sticks at 90 cents each, and literally you get one piece of something (like one tofu, one piece of a vegetable, one small piece of meat). You need to fill up on rice which is another $1.8.
Sounds like some of the other dishes are nice but if You wanted the signature dish, somewhere like Tinas or Dragon hot pot offers better value.
