Amazing choc cakes. The way a choc cake should be. Some of their muffins are a little different and not my taste, but everything looks so good and lve never had a cake that has not been fresh. I would definitely recommend the coffee also, it’s a very lovely little shop, homely and has a comfy warm country feel to it.
We needed some sweets to brighten up such a dreary and wet day and was lazy to drive far so off we went to the nearest bakery, Wooden Spoon Cakes. Walked in and was greeted warmly by the lady behind the counter and I was momentarily distracted by the selection of cupcakes, cakes, slices, tarts and whatnot in the fridge. This will be a difficult choice. Ordered our usual skinny lattes and settled for a banoffee tart and opera cake. The banoffee pie was just the right amount of sweet, and the gooey caramel counterbalanced the light as air whipped cream. The opera cake needed more soaking in coffee syrup as all I could get from it was the almond sponge and ganache, but texture-wise it gets a thumb up from me. Similarly, our lattes were a bit weak. I was able to look into the kitchen from where I was seating and was impressed by the amount of cakes being made and also the number of cake orders coming in. Seems like a very popular bakery in the area and I can understand why.
