When you’re on a good thing stick to it
We’ve been ordering the 2 pizzas garlic bread and drink for well over 20 years – always includes at least 1 capricciosa ( always generous size, topping, especially the ham and optional anchovy -yes!). Despite change of management/ownership? and slight variation, basically it never disappoints. In that time it’s only approximately doubled in price – where else can you get such good value?
Keep up the good work Nero’s!
Well This May Be The Best Pizza In My Area…… Nice Pizza Do Try Best pizza ever in the neighbourhood. I’ve been ordering pizzas from Nero’s for 20 years. If they are busy they let you know. Generous toppings at a reasonable price.
Pizza is so simple, the only real difference between a horrible product and a great one is simply a bit of care. But obviously no one at this shop cares, they just go through the motions. The pizza came out dry, tasteless and horrible. Yuck. We’re not that hard to please, but we’re never going back. Avoid this place.
Best pizza ever in the neighbourhood. I’ve been ordering pizzas from Nero’s for 20 years. If they are busy they let you know. Generous toppings at a reasonable price.
On a lovely sunny, but cold Sunday morning, we arrived at Nero’s to try out their new breakfast menu. The seating for breakfast is in the front section of the restaurant attached to Bucatini. The very friendly waitress saw us to our table (we were the only diners), and turned on the large overhead heater, which started warming us in seconds.
These days there are so many amazing new stylee breakfast options like quinoa this and chia that? What to do if you have a family who’re fond of the more trad options? Nero’s has ‘us’ covered. The breakfast menu is quite vast and covers all sorts of egg options, benedict, florentine, omelette, there are sweeter options like moscato pancake, French toast and bircher muesli and good old porridge (with a delicious sounding combo of stewed apple, vanilla yoghurt, strawberries, prunes, hazelnuts and yes, quinoa makes an appearance here) drizzled with honey. There are also home made muffins and banana bread.
The cold weather makes for a hearty appetite, so our selection was Eggs Benedict, the eggs poached perfectly, good ham and a agreeable hollandaise. Big Breakfast, consisting of poached eggs (though The Lovely Man asked for that to be subbed with fried), bacon, Italian Sausage (delicious flavour of fennel, with a hint of chilli, though texturally a little soft) home-made hash brown, grilled tomato, sauteed spinach – which I enjoyed as The Lovely Man’s not keen on spinach, mushrooms and sourdough. The Smashed Avocado Toast consisted of sourdough, poached egg, ricotta, ‘medley tomato’, Spanish onion, olives, basil and roquette with balsamic glaze, along with a half an avocado this too is a big breakfast! Our youngest made his choice of scrambled eggs which is served with sourdough – when you have wobbly teeth, sourdough is a bit difficult to eat, I probably should have requested an English muffin for him. The eggs were a little more cooked than I might choose. The most interesting choice – mine – was the Pull Chicken Benedict. I have no preconceived ideas about which food should be served at what time of day like some people (The Lovely Man), so the idea of harissa hollondaise (sic) with shreds of spicy chicken beneath poached eggs sounded more interesting than wrong. I was right to try, this was delicious! Up there with more unusual breakfasts I’ve tried, but happily so. Again, the poached eggs were perfectly done, though my hollandaise was a bit on the cool side and given there was harissa, I thought it might have had more of a hit of heat also – from a spice point of view. Finally we shared the Fresh Fruit Salad – a delicious berry compote and vanilla yoghurt topped strawberries, pear, cantaloupe, banana and grapes, Yum.
Each of the egg dishes included a pickled vegetable topping. The jury is out on that. I found it initially a bit insipid on its own, but it did better when enjoyed with some egg or muffin.
The children enjoyed their hot chocolates and moca chocolate, my English breakfast tea was fine – a teabag in a cute teapot, that unfortunately didn’t pour cleanly. The Lovely Man didn’t enjoy his coffee. He wondered if it may have been the first cup of the day – surmising that the first cup out of the machine is always dodgy, and perhaps the staff could make themselves one to save the customers! Our waitress apologised for her English skills, but I thought she did fine – just a little help needed pointing to the menu. It was kinda cool seeing the dough being prepped for later in the day, it’s a long day, the life of a pizza dough.
Would return for breakfast, I hope they do well enough so that we can.
Major decline in quality!. I used to love Nero’s pizza and I was a customer for 17 yrs. Unfortunately the quality has declined to the extent that I have eaten my last pizza from Nero’s.
There is way less topping than there used to be (and I suspect they are using stras instead of ham), the pizzas are very doughy, and they often overcook them. Add to that some slow delivery times and the result is I don’t spend my hard-earned money at Nero’s any more.
