The name of this business; ‘Railway Tiffin’ really appeals to me. I think it’s because I just think tiffins are so cute, and I like the idea of working somewhere and having little a stack of tiffins, each with a different and delicious treat inside, delivered to me, is wonderful.

This place wont win any style awards, but there is some banquet seating, and tables. Right now, Railway Tiffin is hidden behind tradie fencing and trucks, but it’s open for business as usual. The young man who severed me was shy, but friendly. He waited patiently while I perused only one side of the menu (wish he’d told me there was another side). In any case, dining solo as I was, I was never going to be able to order all the things I wanted to try – even without seeing the ‘street food’ side – but next time!

A Chicken Makhani, ‘Station Master’ Roti, ‘Green’ chutney (coriander and mint – and it was subtly green, not lurid green, suggesting no food colouring added) were ordered. I was given an option to heat – but it’s a bit like ‘how long is a piece of string’ isn’t it? I said that I like it ‘quite hot’ but what I think of as ‘quite hot’ may be different to another person. In spite of this, they managed to get the heat to pretty much my maximum tolerance. I got the sniffles while eating this, delicious and rich meal. Plenty of chicken, and lots of sauce. When I’d asked for the roti, I was asked how many, initially saying one. It was suggested two would be better, given their size. In truth, I probably did only *need* one, but the reality is I was soooo glad I had two – because they were delicious. My chutney was the perfect foil to the heat of the makhani. A warming and filling meal for one, sadly I could try no more. Loved my tin cup for drinking.

Would absolutely revisit with other diners to try more. It might be time for a menu upgrade as the texta crossing out prices and new prices is a little difficult to follow.

I thought this was one of the best Indian places I’ve been to in Melbourne. It’s almost just a hole in the wall but the food is amazing. They do haleem every day and it’s delicious. Pair it with chilli and garlic naan which just tastes divine! Also don’t forget to try the mogo chips, which is an East African specialty. I loved it. Will go again!

UPDATE 5/5/18: we ordered the pav bhaji which tasted nothing like the original. My husband and I were up all night throwing up from food poisoning.

-We tried a selection of the street food. Two of the dishes were fantastic whilst the third was nice but had too much of a western spin on it. For what it’s worth $10 for a plate of street food is far too expensive. Our hunt for perfect Indian street food on this side of town continues!

I ordered a Prawn Masala to take away for dinner. It was very delicious. Thank you for the nice meal. I highly recommended this place and would definitely go back.

Great Indian! We get a lot of takeaway from this restaurant and it’s always great. My husband has Coeliac disease and it’s always carefully gluten-free. We really like the Mogo chips, and the Railway Station Lamb Curry is delicious. Good rice too – I really like the Pulao Rice.

Fantastic food, have been twice in two weeks. Flavours are great, and unlike many Indian places the food is not greasy. Would definitely be back and recommend others to give it a go.
