Pretty average. The vibe is bang on, feels like being in the city. But the prices are city prices and the food is essentially pub food on a nicer plate. Chef appetizer was lacking, pizza dough was delish but sauce was pretty bland and toppings seemed thrown on. Really not that special. Lots of better, more affordable options in the area…only worth going as it’s a place to be seen.
Went here for the first time tonight after trying to get in for 2 weekends and I could honestly not fault the place! The service is fantastic, friendly, honest and helpful. The food is that traditional italian food and flavours and made with all fresh and delicious ingredients. I am a bit of a pizza snob and I can say that the pizza was definitely up there with some that I have tried! The food is a bit on the pricey side but it is honestly so worth it. What a great addition to the area and I am sure they will do very very well!
A very popular place so you need to book. This restaurant used to be a bank and I’m surprised it’s doing so well because it’s in an industrial area – technically it’s in Braeside but listed as Mordialloc. We had cheesy garlic bread which was quite nice and a lovely smooth Italian red wine. Mains were eye fillets with a limited range of sauces available but good quality meals. More vegetables would have been welcomed. I had the barramundi which was unfortunately burned on top but the fish underneath was lovely and tender. The tiramisu was delicious and so were the Nutella donuts. The lemon tart was creamy and sweet. Service was efficient but there were long waits between courses. Can become very noisy as the acoustics are not ideal for a busy restaurant. We took a pizza home but the toppings were a bit light on and could have been more generous. Quite expensive and a serious lack of items for vegetarians and vegans which would improve the menu.
Group of 6 – dined here for a bday, extremely busy so make sure you book first! A great fitout and atmosphere backed up by an impressive authentically Italian menu.
My order:
Crispy Squid – okay, nothing special though and not crispy.
Bruschetta – nice but not epic, sourdough (multigrain) a little too bready, could have done with a minute on the grill.
Sopressa Pizza – YUM!! Incredible fresh tasty base and a good amount of toppings, really liked this. Only criticism would be a tad too salty (but it did have Gorgonzola)
Reginette pasta with Slow cooked Lamb Ragu – this is the one that let me down, pasta was very very al dente (hard and chewy) and Ragu sauce was quite bland – lamb was however beautifully slow cooked in large melting chunks but its not too hard to cook some lamb slow and low, need to work on that sauce to include some punchy rich flavours!
Overall pretty good however not great (this time) definitely some other items on the menu Id like to try.
What a neighbourhood gem. Meat Flour Wine offers five star, Melbourne-level quality around the corner.
The staff are lovely, friendly and passionate. The food is impeccable.
For the first course, we ordered the Tutto Carne pizza, which ticked all the right boxes crispy, soft, thin, fresh base; premium quality meats. However, I would try something with more colour next time, such as the Prosciutto pizza, which has fresh rocket, cherry tomatoes and shaved parmigiano.
The next course, I chose the lamb ragu reginette, and my friend chose the prawn linguine.
Wow.
I don’t typically order pasta at a restaurant, but it is compulsory here. I can honestly say that I haven’t had the pleasure of eating pasta like this before. Discard your memory of any pasta you’ve had before, because this will blow away all expectations.
For dessert, we ordered the chef’s tasting platter. Forget trying to choose from any of the numerous tantalising options try them all with the platter. Trust me you won’t regret it.
I will certainly be returning soon, and recommending it to all my friends. Keep up the great work, MFW!
Reginette with the Lamb Ragu, must have although where is the automatic offer of freshly grated parm and cracked pepper. Scallop ceviche, delightful couldve used some ice with my mineral water. Can I find a place that does Braciole? Maybe on a specials board. Margarita pizza pretty sweet as well definitely gonna go back.
