The prices are a joke! $29 for a plate of rice, and a small bit of eggplant and spinach. For $29 you can get lamb instead of spinach which seems more reasonable, but really if a restaurant is replacing lamb with spinach (cant think of a cheaper replacement) for vegos then the price needs be reduced by about $6. The meal was ok, nothing special, and yes I’ve had afghan food before.
We got the sharing plate for entree and asked for it to be made vegetarian. We were told the meat dumplings would be replaced with an additional serve of sambosa. Instead we got the tiniest single sambosa you can imagine. So here this sophisticated meat element is being omitted, not replaced and is the expensive price adjusted? No! Again – ok taste but covered in a horrible tomato sauce that tasted of concentrated puree (same as our mains – so everything we ate).
The Naan was hands down the worst bread I’ve ever had. It was like a gluten free pizza base that had been over-kneeded (except that it seemed mass produced) and overtoasted. Rock hard and no flavour (was supposed to be garlic).
Presentation of food was basic, poor form for the prices. I’ve eaten in a gorgeous afghan restaurant where everything was served in beautiful engraved silver pots (and lovely optional areas to sit down on cushions at a low table). Service was fine, not bad, but not going the extra mile as you’d expect for the prices.
Feeling very ripped off. Wouldn’t come back sadly.
Great hospitality but bad food – Not an authentic Afghan restaurant – Just has it in its name but not in food. Ambience was also very good however, food needs improvement in taste.
