I really like the food here, but the service and the prices are the main drawbacks here.
The food: I really enjoy almost everything on the menu here EXCEPT steak. To be fair, I am very picky when it comes to steak and if blue steak is offered at a restaurant I’ll happily take it. Obviously you have to be careful where you order a steak cooked blue, and I felt quite queezy after eating a blue eye fillet here. I’ve also had medium/rare eye fillet and just didn’t find the steak to be that good.
The ribs are the main attraction. Definitely order the ribs here and you will not be disappointed. The meat just falls right off the bone and so far, every serving of ribs that I’ve ordered here have been delicious.
The service: the service has been hit and miss, but mostly miss. Management can be a bit rude here and I know I’m not the only person with that view.
The price: this place is very pricy and the bill adds up quite quickly here. Just for an entree, two mains and drinks between my partner and myself came to over $200. The food here is nice but it’s not my favourite place to dine and I’ve had better ribs at hurricanes grill for much cheaper.
Steaks were good however, the restaurant as a whole is a little overpriced for what you get. Pay $35 for a steak and chips then you need to pay an additional $5 for sauce or $9 for vegetables. Steaks had quite a bit of gristle in them. Nothing to write home about.
Squires Loft is a family favourite for gatherings and celebrations. We’ve been to the South Yarra restaurant a couple of times, but this was our first time at Mornington.
Overall the food was good – pretty standard for what you would expect from Squires Loft. However I did notice that the medium-rare steak I ordered was closer to a medium – although I personally wasn’t too bothered, overcooking is the cardinal sin of the steak house, so it might upset some diners.
Overall though the food was good and the service was excellent, so in summary I’d call it a good night!
Been twice, once in a group and second as a couple. The steak was very nice and enjoyed the jacket pot that it came with, its very cramped and the decor is quite sterile and OMG it is so noisy, couldnt hear the person next to me, but it was always very busy.
On a price point it seemed quite alright, would go again, for a good honest steak, but dont go for the ambiance.
Nice food at a premium price, if you’ve got money to burn go for it, but you can eat better for half the price. If your going to pay top money it’s got to be first class and this place falls way short.
We went to this restaurant last night and really enjoyed it. The food was fantastic and the service to match. The calamari was fresh and delicious, our steaks were huge and very tasty, the squires baste is really good! Very generous size portions especially the sides and even the kids meals! We will definitely be back.
Have been going Squires for years and thought we would try the new local one. Great service, great staff andamazing STEAKS! We will be back……….VERY SOON!
