Classy Clancy’s. The fine dining room at this local motel does a mean Mod Oz menu. It’s a family favourite and we come here a few times a year for reliably good food, friendly service and an elegant atmosphere.
The menu always has a tempting array of choices plus daily specials. We chose oysters for entree, fresh and salty – offered both au naturel and Kilpatrick. The duck liver pate was a moreishly creamy big block served with quality bread and interesting trimmings like duck croquettes & pickled rhubarb. Our salt and pepper squid was tasty and tender, with a tart citrus salad. I really liked the Aylesbury duck with red cabbage and buckwheat to which we added an apple slaw Waldorf salad, and sauted green beans with bacon (lardons). My mushroom gnocchi were good, and the eye fillet flawless. Desserts looked amazing (souffle with Tim Tam ice cream; coconut panna cotta) but sadly we were too full to try.
Service was warm and kind. One guest wanted pasta and couldn’t find something he liked for dinner (risotto not being close enough). The chef generously cooked him a pasta dish with the flavourings from the risotto. A further delight and surprise was that the birthday guest of honour was given a selection of gourmet chocolates from the venue. A lovely touch.
All up it came to $417 with two bottles of wine and other drinks, before tip. The lunchtime specials in the adjoinjng bar ($20 main with a glass of wine) sees the place pack out on weekdays. Clamour on in!
We enjoyed our dinner here, the food was great. A bit pricey though but service was excellent so thought it was worth it. Would go back again.
A little luxury in a location where restaurants generally prioritise family budget eating. Great service and drinks menu; perfectly cooked meat. A small menu but widely pleasing. Will definitely go back to try some more dishes. The duck was not too dry not too oily. For my mum who likes steak well done they didn’t protest or cook it less than she desired.
Great Night !. Last night my family celebrated a special birthday at Clancy’s. The menu had something for everyone and the food was superb. The waiter was very attentive to our needs and friendly. The atmosphere was lovely and quiet… we could actually have a conversation! A great choice for a special night!
Clancy’s. Dined here with friends & we were all surprised at the very limited menu. The food was sparse- virtually all that arrived was the meat plus a tiny amount of veg. If the prices were as small as the helpings it would have been reasonable.
We have recently dined here. I think it is a little overpriced and the main meal serves a little small. The decor and service was very good but it was also less than half full when we were there.
I’m not sure that I would go back for the price. The wine list is very good.
Poor service. Ive been to Clancys 2 previous times, food is small portions but well cooked. I have liked it in past, takes 2 hours for 3 course and waiters fill your water and offer drinks…. But not today, bad service, no updates on food, took 2 hours for mains, no offer for another drink, food wasnt worth the wait, never will return.
