We chose Stanley today for breakfast to catch up with some friends who live nearby. I was shocked to have been robbed twice, once by the weekend surcharge- is that really a thing? Ive only ever come across this once before and was as astounded by it then as I am now. Pretty sure given the plethora of cafes this restaurant group own they are well able to cover whatever additional wages weekend trading is costing them just like every other venue does.
The second incident was when I paid the 10% inflated bill and gave $122 for the $111 meal. I was given $1 back and instantaneously said the change was $11 to which the staff member replied I gave you $11. I offered her to inspect the contents of my bag and wallet to prove she had in fact only given me $1. Not really impressed
On to the food. I had a chai latte to start which was ok. I prefer it on the sweeter side which is why I favour the ones that come with the honey on the side not already in the glass. For my meal I choose the Nutella waffles. Texturally I found the waffle a bit hard and the dish overly sweet.
The vanilla mascarpone did help to balance it somewhat but the brle banana was just compounding the sweetness. If there was a raspberry pure on the plate rather than a decorative smear this may have provided a bit of tartness to aid in a more balanced dish. Overall I found the experience disappointing
Okay, so I visited this cafe because of the amazing rating it’s managed to obtain. It’s also quite close to where I live so it didn’t take much to convince me to try it out.
I chose to have the chicken schnitzel with an Asian coleslaw and my friend had the eggs Benedict with pulled beef.
The chicken schnitzel was deep fried so the skin bubbled off the chicken and was ultra crispy. Unfortunately that also meant the chicken was dry and overcooked, also the Asian coleslaw was uninspiring with the only ‘Asian’ element being the deep fried shallots they sprinkled over the whole plate.
The eggs Benedict was under seasoned and a bit flavorless. Usually beef that’s slow cooked is full of flavour but this was severely underwhelming. Compared to some amazing Benedict’s available around Melbourne, this is just so disappointing.
In terms of ambience the cafe is not bad, it would be decent for a small group gathering, if the food was better.
One of my favourite Melbourne cafes up to date! Such a great venue and atmosphere. You can always expect good food and good service here.
We ordered Chicken Schnitzel – Coconut & Lime Panna Cotta – Chicken & Mango Salad – Brekky Smoothie – Mango Smoothie, and honestly, everything were just nice and perfect, from the portion to the taste. Oh and did I say their plating is pretty too! Highly recommended this cafe!
Rating: 4.5
Finally got around to trying Stanley and I am so glad I did. Got a table within 5 mins and ordered the below meals (smashed avo and a carrot based dish, cant fully remember) below and they were delicious! Coffee was great too, definitely worth trying!
gorgeous cafe in a quiet little street tucked away from the busy roads with one of the most helpful and knowledgeable staff. Their court yard area is soo pretty and perfect for summer and their vegan options are flavoursome. Their acai is of course my favourite and will always be my favourite. Shoutout to the lovely waiter who was able to make it vegan friendly! Cannot wait to revisit soon! I really recommend this one, the food is amazing and there are so many different options to choose from!

We had visited Stanley twice in the last few weeks and both times were excellent! Heres what we ordered!
Maple crunch porridge – served with maple roasted plum, cherry labneh, pistachio and walnut crunch – this was a relatively healthy dish which I quite enjoyed! The sweetness of the walnut crunch and maple roasted plum complemented the sourness of the cherry labneh and neutral flavor of the porridge!
Smashed avo and edamame – coming with fresh chilis, black sesame and feta, this was simple but yet delicious though I would have preferred a bigger portion of this.
Heirloom carrots – with beetroot hummus, goats cheese, poached egg, pistachio on sourdough and sweet potato chips! My favorite part of this dish was the carrots which were fabulous! So full of flavor and complementing the beetroot hummus spread on the sourdough! The sweet potato chips was such a clever idea as it enhanced the sweetness of the dish! Was so happy everything worked out well together!
Nutella Hong Kong waffles – probably not much needed to be said here other than yum! Served with vanilla mascarpone, banana brle, fresh fruits and a nice Nutella spread in the waffle, I would say this is a sweet dream come true! the waffle was so fluffy and soft unlike others which are just crunchy! The Nutella spread was generous which went well with the freshness of of the fruits! This was literally my favorite dish amongst both visits!
Stanley has consistently served good food and I look forward to trying their new summer dishes which I believe are coming soon!
You cant go wrong with anything you order at Stanley! Everything I had not only looked good, but tasted even better.
I had their breakfast bowl, spiced chicken schnitzel and Nutella HK waffles.
Im officially obsessed with their healthy breakfast bowl and the halloumi with it was a big plus. Will definitely be one of my go-to orders.
The spiced chicken schnitzel was a great lunch option. The slaw was a bit rich – would have liked a bit less sauce, but thats just my personal preference. 🙂
Their super IG worthy Nutella HK egg waffles were sooo delicious – anyone with a sweet tooth would be super happy with this!
Btw you need to order their mango smoothie!! It tastes similar to a mango lassi (which I love).
Love how bright the venue is with lots of natural light. Staff were super friendly too!
