My childhood favourite. Been coming here for about 15 years. The great thing is their recipe for the sausage rolls taste amazing and it’s never changed consistency is the key with these guys. I was surprised when they bought out pork rolls. Haven’t tried them yet. But when you go make sure you get the jam doughnut, caramel slice and sausage rolls. My all time favourite bakery.

Syndal Bakery is my discovery of the week and it’s been hiding in plain sight for quite some time down Blackburn road in Glen Waverley. Not much street appeal with a few tables outside and in. The interior is similar in terms of look… functional and not focused on aesthetics. What Syndal does have is the most tasty Vietnamese pork rolls I have had in at least a couple of years.
The banh mi was made with what appears to be home made home seasoned pork meat and absolutely crammed fresh Asian style salad to boot. I was asked if I want chilli and I said yes but the friendly staff member was hesitant to load me up so I think I got the western dose but I could have handled the Vietnamese strength I’m sure. There was also a chicken option if pork isn’t your thing. Very reasonable $6 when I consider most of the banh mi I buy in the city cost upwards of seven fiddy.
Staff were friendly and chatty and knew a lot of the people who came in by name (this was reciprocal) so obviously a few more locals know about the place. As well as the banh mi they sell pies, cakes and coffee scrolls, one of which somehow, magically, got into my purchase and then disappeared on the journey home. The bread looked crusty and good.
These little family run places are why I love Melbourne so much. Having something as Aussie and a hot pie paired in a shop with Vietnamese heritage items is just bloody terrific.
Long time family run business. Also doing vietnamese Bahn Mi…. those lovely crusty baguettes with roast pork and salad which seem to be very popular. Well the ones here are the best this side of Princes Hwy
Nice bakery in the neighbourhood. Friendly service with a variety of pastries and slices to choose from. Came here to get an afternoon tea selection for some guests – ended up with donuts, lamingtons, vanilla slices, caramel slices, coffee scrolls and jam scrolls. All baked fresh and delicious.
G I V E US this day O UR D A I L Y BREAD.
Yup, The Whippeteers have been coming here for years!
The breads/cakes/pork rolls are ALL expertly made. Sophie (Daughter)/Mary (Mum) do the service. Dad is the baker and he’s back home in bed before we ever arrive, that’s for sure!
This bakery’s forte is doing all the favorites well, giving the GOOD PEOPLE OF SYNDAL, their DAILY fix of WHEAT/RYE etc
