I’ve been to Fountain Gate numerous times but this is my first time to try Dumplings Chef. I ordered the prawn wontons with chili oil ($10.80 for 12 pieces). The Fountain Gate food court during Sunday lunch time has always been chaotic, but waiting at Dumplings Chef was insane. Next to Dumplings Chef is KFC, which is always crowded and as a result, there isn’t much space to wait for your Dumplings Chef order unless you have a table.

Wait time was about 20 minutes, if not longer. Their ordering counter arrangement doesn’t make sense. There are two ends of serving counter, both sides have sauces and spare cutlery, but you can only order, pay and pick up your order at one side. As a result, everyone is cramped onto one side to order, pay, pick up and get sauces while the other side is perfectly empty. Things get super crazy when you add in the KFC crowd and random trolleys coming out of nowhere.

When I finally got my wontons, I felt they were fresh enough, but quite dry. Their sauce rack was a bit feral so I didn’t use any extra sauces; and the wontons themselves were not adequately sauced. They were not bad and were reasonably priced, if there was enough sauce, I probably would enjoy them a lot more. But I feel the wait time and effort put in to get these wontons were not worth it. If I ever have my dumplings/wontons cravings again, I might try them again, but definitely NOT weekend lunchtime.
