I attended the Sandown Park Hotel for a work colleagues birthday, after arriving a little late my other friends who had already eaten commented on the meals being average in taste and lacking in quality.
I ordered the premium cut Scotch Fillet with mushroom sauce and requested medium cooked.
On arrival the meal looked pretty standard traditional pub fare, and a salad not dressed or tossed with dressing just squirted with a generic dressing, l soldiered on with an open mind despite my friends comments, unfortunately the comments where correct. Horrible grissly steak in most parts not palatable, gloopy glue like mushroom sauce and the side salad as mentioned average, not worth the trip to try this place, I have had terrific meal after meal at the Sandown Greyhound club way better cuisine a short distance away.

Robyn is the star of the Sandown Park Hotel! Her service is always the best and we love coming for a meal whenever we can. Love the food, the $10 cocktails and the modern, cosy atmosphere.

Went here for the first time for lunch today, and the serves were enormous. I had the lamb shoulder served with mashed potato, peas and a red wine jus. The lamb was so tender, that not only could you cut it with a butter knife, but it was falling off the fork! It was the most tender lamb I have ever had. The potato mash was lovely, and the peas were cooked with a herb that drove me crazy – it was familiar but I couldn’t place it. Deliciously unexpected. My only gripe is that our companions’ meals came out substantially later than ours, I would have preferred them to come out much quicker.
