With such a depth of Mexican cuisine in Melbourne nowadays, it’s hard to stand out. My experience at El Sabor was nice enough, but I can’t say that I ate anything that would inspire me to return.
I tried the Elotes (corn), Gringa (quesadilla), tacos, nachos and chicken wings. My favourite was the chicken wings, which shouldn’t be the case at a Mexican restaurant, as I don’t remember eating any chicken wings in Mexico. The rest of the dishes were ok, but largely lacking in authentic flavours that I’ve had elsewhere, but better. The service was also very slow, with substantial efforts made to get the attention of staff, who to be fair were very pleasant. Not a bad spot at all if you’re looking for safe Mexican food at a place with Mexican flags everywhere to remind you that you’re at a Mexican restaurant.
