I love a little lowbrow now and then and the Albion Charles fits that bill nicely. Its a pub dedicated to cheap grog and food and fleecing punters and I had to drop in for a look after Id been driving past for years. I never punt. I just like the occasional cheap drink in a plain and/or down at heel place in between meals at hipster and other allegedly upmarket haunts. A key objective on this visit was to see if the AC could descend lower than the tragic Balaclava Hotel which 2S visited recently with alarming results. Bottom line, the Albion Charles is better. Its not as cramped or pokey as the Balaclava and the bathroom sharps container didnt have used needles overflowing ready for use as weapons by patrons. The pub itself was tidy, the bathrooms immaculate. Best of all, theres a better class of scotch here – the mighty Lagavullen – and with a reasonable price tag too. Add to that that service was good and I felt no fear of acts of gratuitous violence and my quick visit can be safely judged a major success. Against the odds, I liked it. Its a solid 3.

Diner is part of the hotel.
We sat in the diner & ordered cheese burger & a steak both came with fries. It didn’t take too long before the steak was cold due to the strong air-con. Burger was just average nothing to rave about.
Considering the diner is part of the hotel with TAB & pokies you’d expect the meals to be cheaper than what they’re charging.
Feel ripped off not good value for money

Bobs diner is located at the Albion Charles hotel
It looks great with a good fitout of mainly white ny subway tiles and neon signs over the top.
The menu on first glance looks good covering all the usual suspects. A couple of us ordered the cheese burger which comes on a wooden board and looks great.
The burger was a let down. The bun is brioche but way too sweet. The burger is soggy and falls apart and the bun goes through a double sided toaster which cooks the top aswell.
The produce is fine. All of the above can be fixed and this would be a good burger place.

Great drive through bottleshop. I will say this, the local council wisely decided to position a bike repair station across the road from the Albion Charles, which is handy considering that there is almost always a gauntlet of broken stubbies in front of the place waiting to puncture your tyres. ‘Dining’ is now solely in the form of a on site ‘Burger edge’ franchise, which is actually not too bad, if you’re after a take away meal,, but apart from Melbourne Cup day, you’d have to hold a gun to my head before my shadow would grace this dive.

Have been here a few times to watch the football and have a cheap meal and beer. The Parma is $10 on Fridays and Saturdays and it is awesome. The chicken is a breast piece, just the right thickness and pan fried. The sauce is tomatoey, chunky and plentiful. There was one time I found it a bit watery, but every other time it’s been awesome. Decent amount of cheese too. Comes with a nice little side salad and the chips are fantastic. Without doubt this is the best value and best tasting Parma I’ve had in a long while. Have also tried the steak sandwich ($12). Has two layers of thin steak, bacon, egg, beetroot, cheese, cucumber … Maybe lettuce? On toasted bread. Parma won hands down. Not the greatest atmosphere but the perfect spot for football, beer and a decent feed.
