The food came out quick and the portion were pretty generous. The taste though was pretty average. The food also felt more oily than other Vietnamese places, so you might want to take that into account. The food we ordered were pork vermicelli with spring rolls and pork chop on rice. The vermicelli was slightly better between the two.
We fancied a light lunch and we were in the area so thought we would try this Vietnamese restaurant out in the heart of High St Westgarth.
We were greeted by the waiter who gave us menus and we ordered some beers to start off with. They arrived quickly and we proceeded to order some veggie spring rolls, vegetarian fried rice and chicken and steam rice in black bean sauce. The waiter expected us to order more and actually said to us you order one more dish I said we werent that hungry and thankfully didnt push it any further. Not a great start though.
As we were sipping on our Crown lagers the food arrived swiftly. The spring rolls were tasty and flavoursome and we wrapped them in the iceberg lettuce and then dipped them in the sweet chilli sauce.
The veggie fried rice was a little bland. I think the mixture of Tofu pieces and carrot is not a great combination. I would have preferred fried egg. The chicken and rice dish was spot on. So things were looking up.
As we finished off our meal we stayed in the restaurant and chatted for a while. All of a sudden the same waiter decided that it was appropriate during lunch service to do some DIY. So he proceeded to use some kind of chemical (it smelt like WD40) and clean/maintain his restaurant door. Admittedly there was only the 3 of us in the restaurant but it put us right off and we paid up quickly leaving a bad taste in our mouth.
Not a restaurant I will probably visit again Im afraid!
New to Melbourne and on our first trip to Northcote we stumbled upon this place. We enjoyed a delicious veggie fried rice and vegetable curry – lovely service and very fast! The staff were welcoming and extremely helpful with questions about gf and low fodmap requirements. We were shocked to see some very negative reviews here as we had a fantastic experience. Will definitely be back.
Had a good dinner last night with friends, tasty Vietnamese food, and big servings for $12-$15! Also the service was friendly and quick, will come back
I had the tom yum pho, which had such good flavours, and tasted so nourishing. Great atmosphere in the restaurant and very friendly service.
I had what possibly was the laziest, blandest bowl of vermicelli salad. The noodles felt stale and overcooked. They were stingy on the meat and also the veggie portions were insufficient. No tang, no zingy flavors, no nothing. It feels like this place is run with a complete lack of passion and I don’t recommend it
Had the rare beef salad as a shared entree.
Then my dining partner had the rice vermicelli with pork and spring rolls while I had the fried tofu.
All three dishes were very generous with the portion size.
The salad was lovely and crisp with nice flavours.
The tofu was one of the best I have had and I try that at every Vietnamese restaurant we go to.
The vermicelli was tasty and the pork was lovely.
All in all a nice meal here.
