Whiskey Bar and Bookshop. A totally interesting combination and a great venue for a wedding we attended on a Saturday evening. They stocked tasty house wines, tap and bottled beers and an impressive collection of spirits, most of which were more for your whiskey drinkers.
Food catering was great. We received several tasting che se and antipasto platters, toasties, quiches, mini asian style soups and sausage rolls.
Really good bar service and staff were generally knowledgeable although I will point out that one staff member wasnt able to answer the question of whether there was cream/dairy in the soup and didnt try and find this out for us.
It was a very atmospheric venue for such a smallish wedding gathering (around 50 all up) and there was a back room with fireplace and a rear courtyard to.
Its another 3.6 for me. Seems to be the number at the moment. This is a pleasant little whiskey bar on the cusp of Ruckers Hill just before you wind down the hill to Westgarth. It looks like the sort of place you could spend a raucous night as the range of whiskies here is very impressive. It was a cold old June day and I needed a little warming up. A whiskey was just the thing and this place caught my eye. My Ardbeg on ice went down nicely. Not quite as good as a Laphroaig but still thrillingly peaty. This is a good place thats marked down for a return.
Located in the heart of trendy Melbourne, Buck Mulligan’s is a lovely place for a quiet dram with friends. Boasting a sizeable selection of whiskeys and whiskys (depending on your preferred region) that continues to grow, recommended for a catch up with a friend or small group. The snug is fantastic for a casual meeting tempered by a lovely dram. 5/5
Went here because my friends keep bugging me to get into Whiskey. This place seemed like the perfect venue for an education and I wasn’t disappointed!
The owner, Eamonn, is very knowledgeable about the whisky on offer as the collection is hand-selected. I ordered a known favourite – Starward – an Australian Whisky made right here in Melbourne. Eamonn was gearing up for St Patrick’s Day due to his Whiskey bar having a distinctly Irish feel – as such he also always has Guinness on tap, and some traditional Irish fare to accompany your drinks. The staff who work alongside Eamonn are also very welcoming and fun to interact with.
Based on my tastes with the Starward, Eamonn recommended the Potstill flight. These flight-taster boards are very reasonably priced and showcase different styles of Whisky/Whiskey. The bar even has custom-made boards and glasses for this very purpose! I was quite impressed. Each Whiskey provided was great and I’ve definitely made a note to request them at some future date. If you mention the flavours you’re after then you’re certain to find something that matches your tastes.
I’ll be honest and say that the true stars of this bar were the toasted sandwich, and the regulars. They popped by late in the afternoon and chatted over the counter. I had a great time in casual conversation with everyone – they really added to the ambience of Buck Mulligan’s just by being there! It says a lot about a bar when the regular patrons are friendly and interesting to talk to. I believe in this case, the regulars indicate that Buck Mulligan’s is worth a good reputation.
In regards to the toasted sandwich – it was simply delicious, and perfectly went with the drinks I ordered. I’d be perfectly content to return just for that food item, but after seeing the ‘cosy nook’ of armchairs and wood fireplace in the corner I may just book this place in for a winter visit.
Wheelchair accessible (inside not outside). Sliding door. Accessible toilets.
Quiet and small bar but not hugely busy and a good variety of seating options. Nice and intimate but okay for small groups with small amounts of chairs.
Friendly and accommodating staff. Good sellection of whiskey based and other based cocktails. Luke David
Fantastic place to relax and get out of the cold with a drink. The atmosphere is super cozy with couches and tables in corners plus games and books to make you feel like you’ve found yourself in a cozy cabin somewhere. The staff are super friendly and service great.
Most importantly the drinks are really good. Super smooth and strong whiskey as well as creamy cocktails, perfect for a night out in winter.
This is a great little bar. Cosy atmosphere, super friendly staff, tasty bar snacks and some interesting events. They specialise in Irish Whiskey, though I usually stick to their wine list, which is pretty good too.
