Yes, it’s a bit dated in its appearance, but so what? Curry Masala is a diamond in the rough – courteous provision of a menu that is both authentic, well-priced and most importantly, delicious. The staff understand that the key part of customer service is the actual service, and are delightfully friendly, flexible and prompt. The owners are committed to delivering a quality product at a reasonable price in an age where most operators are just after a quick buck. It pleases me that High St has retained some of its community-first spirit in this gem. And that bombastic soundtrack that has played on repeat for at least 4 years! Don’t change a thing.
Worst Indian food EVER!!
Food lacked flavour and spice. The chicken used in the curry was old and the curry dishes were small! The tandoori chicken entree was just gross – dry and chicken was also old!The only positive was the garlic naan!!
Service was slow and the single waiter sat behind his little desk looking very bored !!
FYI – This is the lowest rating, I have EVER given to a restaurant!!
Great value, tasty food. Surprisingly quiet for a Friday night. Give it a go…you’ll be pleasantly surprised! Lamb Saag and Chicken Korma were lovely dishes. Service was efficient and friendly.
Really good. It needs a facelift. The food is really good though. Tasty classic Indian. Service has been good. For their own sake if nothing else I wish they do the place up.
We ordered 3 different curries and they all seemed to taste the same. Wasn’t complaining too much as they were delicious but I had higher expectations building up to it.
Quite a surprise!. Always been a bit put off that the place seems empty even on a Friday night. However, decided to put fears aside and try it. Had the chicken dahl and lamb korma with rice and naans. Both curries nicely spiced and not over powering, naans fluffy and rice, well, rice is rice. Quick and friendly service. Perhaps the curries could have a bit more meat in them, but for under $40 for a meal for 2, especially in Northcote, can’t complain.
Extremely Dissapointed. Based on some very misleading ‘good’ online reviews and keen to try a local Indian Restaurant we decided to give Curry Masala a go couple of nights ago and although the delivery was on time, pretty much everything went downhill from there.
We ordered probably the most basic of vegetarian dishes, i.e. Dal Makhani, Paneer Masala and a Mushroom curry. The Paneer was exceedingly sugary/sweet with the cheese chunks probably just added in a common sauce base. The biggest disappointment was Dal Makhani, it had a really bad burnt taste to it and was stale, most likely due to being cooked a long time ago and having been re-heated on multiple occasions.
I do hope for their sake that we ordered on one of their bad days and that the food is better otherwise. In either case, this is one very unhappy and a non-returning diner.
