Date night, last night, was a collab withFarina 00 in Northcote. The gorgeous venue is located a bit out of the busy High St strip, which means that people adventure out specifically to go to the restaurant instead of wandering in off the street.
The owners are super friendly and it was great to be able to sit at the front of the restaurant and watch the pizzas being made. It was torture while we were waiting for our meals as every pizza that came out of the oven looked phenomenal.
We started our meal with two glasses of wine and one of the special menu items – polenta fries. They were deliciously crispy on the outside and warm and gooey on the inside. They came served with aioli and rocket and they were ace paired with the aioli. They would have tasted a bit bland with out a dipping sauce.
We had seen their pizza bowls on Instagram and were very keen to try them, so we both ordered one with a different gnocchi in each. The pizza bowls are a small pizza base, shaped like a bowl, with passata sauce and cheese down the bottom, so you can eat your bowl after you’ve finished your pasta. Priced under $30, it felt like we were getting 2 meals for the price of 1!
I was keen to try the carbonara, but Iordered the ricotta gnocchi with burnt butter and sage instead. The flavours in this dish were very subtle, but I was glad to have a simpler sauce so that I could demolishmy pizza bowl afterwards. The gnocchi was cooked beautifully and were surprisingly large pieces.
My date ordered the gnocchi ragu and said the meat was cooked very well. The sauce was a bit sweet, but it was nice to have something to dip the pizza in to afterwards. He tried mine and said he had FOMO. I offered to swap, but he said it was fine and finished the whole thing – so it must have tasted alright haha.
During our meal, lots of customers came through the door and were greeted by name, showing that the owners go out of their way to remember their loyal customers and their orders. The sense of belonging at Farina 00 is lovely and I would definitely be a regular if I lived in the area. Thanks for having us, team 🙂

What a great little family restaurant tucked away on St Georges Rd! We arrived and were immediately greeted by the owners, who are absolutely lovely! We were shown to our table and served very quickly. We had the pizza bowl with the gnocchi with sage burnt butter in it – goodness me, what a great idea!! The highlight was the burnt butter sauce soaking into the pizza bowl base – Yum! We also had the meat lovers pizza which was great, lovely thin base and generous on the ingredient. Rocket and pear salad was great and served as a nice way to break up all the carbs! Finished off with some delicious gelato! Cleansed the palate and rounded everything off perfectly. I highly recommend it here!
Lizzies first impression: I was quickly impressed as I was greeted with the warmest welcome by the Farina 00 staff. I loved how I got to watch them make the pizza in front of me too.
Lizzie enjoyed: I loved the idea of the pasta in a pizza bowl – its not actually in their menu but its definitely something you shouldnt miss! The seafood marinara had generous amounts of seafood in it! Dessert was absolutely delicious too!
Lizzie did not enjoy: Being a cheese fan, I would have hoped for some more Parmesan on my gnocchi but the ghocchi itself was cooked really well.
Lizzie rates overall: A great humble restaurant in the surburb of Northcote. Definitely worth paying a visit for the pasta in a pizza bowl!
Had the most delicious dinner here we ordered the butter and sage gnocchi- which was served in a PIZZA BOWL two of my favourite things combined into one yum!! I also loved the calamari and arancini of course I had to get some dessert as well and the tiramisu and orange poppy seed pudding blew me away wish I could eat here every day! Nadim and the staff were so friendly as well
Farina 00 is a lovely little Italian restaurant located on St Georges Road in Northcote.
Walking into the venue we were greeted with the warm hospitality of a passionate family business. Farina 00 is decorated beautifully with old Italian memorabilia and dim lighting with the wood fire pizza oven right up the front. It was incredible to watch the chef spin the pizza dough & the kids in the restaurant were loving the theatre of it.
We had to try the pizza bowl, served with your choice of pasta. We chose the gnocchi which was some of the lightest and fluffiest Ive tasted. Absolutely delicious plus of course you can eat the pizza bowl, a stroke of genius.
We also tried the linguine marinara which was filled with amazingly fresh seafood & silky pasta. The mushroom risotto was tasty & full of flavour & the prosciutto pizza had a lovely thin, crispy base & plenty of topping. The menu has a great range of pizza & pasta options as well as traditional Italian starters.
The service, food & hospitality made for a fantastic night, thanks for having us.
