We tried the pad see ew and chicken cashew stir fry and both were bland and had ingriedients missing that were stated on the menu. Had these dishes elsewhere and tasted 10X better. 1st and last time. And for the girl that answers the phone go learn some customer service skills.

Inthanon Thai is a small, modern restaurant on a bustling street in Northcote. I came here with my dad, and we were both craving Penang Curry. Along with the curry, we ordered Son in Law eggs, curry puffs, and Larb Gai (a minced chicken salad). The son in law eggs came into the top 10 best things that I have EVER tasted. The sauce was almost like a soy sauce, but with a hint of sweetness. The eggs had a slightly gooey yolk, which made the whole dish heavenly. When the curry puffs came I had low expectations because they are usually dense and have very little flavour. It was my dad who had ordered it after all. But WOW, they were delicious. The puff had the perfect balance of filling, which was not at all under seasoned, and light, flaky pastry. When Larb Gai came, I wolfed right into it, which I sort of regretted. Although it had a lot of flavour, it was too spicy for me, and I can tolerate spice. However, anyone who has a very high tolerance for spice should try this dish. And finally, what we had been waiting for, the Penang Curry. It was better than a lot of the curries that I had in Thailand. It was creamy, had a kick of spice and definitely satisfied my craving, as well as my dads. I will come back and highly recommend coming here, even if you live far away like me.

The food here is not quite what I would call authentic Thai but it is still quite delicious if you like the rich kind of food. Thai food for me is quite light and refreshing, however the food served here is more catered for Western palates. The coconut curries are extra creamy and rich, which for me, was too thick and fatty that it made it quite hard to finish without feeling bloated. We had the Thai Red Duck curry and the Gang Keow Warn curry. Both had similar thick creamy broths which were too thick to drink as soup, more like spoon like a pudding. We also had satay and spring rolls for starters which were tiny portioned but we couldn’t finish our curry anyway so that didn’t matter and they tasted nice enough.

The portions are moderate for the price. Staff were friendly and the decor of the place gave you something interesting to look at while you wait as the food came out quite late, maybe after 45 minutes of ordering, however it was a busy night.

You can bring your own alcohol here which seems to be a favourite among middle-aged to mature locals which can also get quite rowdy on the weekends.

The place seems children friendly despite the mature adult crowd.

We couldn’t finish our meal in the end and although for us it tasted too rich, we think for some, it would be loved by others who are not looking for fresh and light Thai meals. We’re used to thin coconut milk consistency curries that we’ve had in Thailand so this was more of a surprise than a disappointment with a bit on the overindulgent side.
