This cafe is in a lovely, peaceful location, but the food could be so much better! Ordered the veggie burger with fried potatoes on the side. The burger pattie itself was yummy, but could not pick up the other salad ingredients or sauce, so was bland mainly tasting the burger pattie and bread. The potatoes were boring! Just plane, no crispiness. I dont know why they have them on the menu! Chips or wedges or crispy fried potatoes would be so much more exciting and yummy! The service is friendly, and the drinks are great, but some of the menu items need more mojo!

Ordered spiced kangaroo, fried potatoes and fried chicken. Spicy roo wasnt spicy and chewy, fried potatoes were baked, fried chicken tasted burnt ginger/garlic. Not bad and generous serving, but I dont think they care about peoples feedback

Great coffee, great staff! Cold brew was delicious and the veggies in my green salad were really well cooked! The salad needed a dressing, it was just watery miso so after a while it tasted like eating watery broccoli. The soggy vegetables needed a flavour of some kind, even just some salt or vinegar.

A beautiful day in Melbourne brought on a day of adventure and discovery. Wanting to start a herb and vegetable garden and feeling pekish, we wanted to visit a nursery so we searched online and came across CERES Community Environment Park; a unique, non-profit centre offering an organic grocery & cafe, nursery & environmental education. They had a cafe too so it was a no brainer.

Located in the very hipster part of town, Brunswick East, CERES spans its location over a 4.5 hectare property and has won many awards. A not-for-profit, sustainability centre and urban farm that gives back to the community through various means such as: social-enterprising, community kitchen, market and many more. I cant help but feel that this place is all about moderation, taking only what you need and not any more to enable environmental sustainability… it was almost as if I were in a hippy commune, well that was the vibe anyway.

Merri Table Cafe is CERES own organic cafe and as we sat outside in front of the cafe, you can literally see where the herbs and vegetables are grown and harvested from. You can see from the photos that the food looked as delicious as it tasted although not being a super health nut, I couldnt help but notice how healthy everything tasted. Was it a bad thing? Ofcourse not, it was healthy!
After a delightful feed and upon paying the bill, I grabbed an organic coconut popsicle from the freezer to suffice my dessert craving and well, it was healthy ofcourse and made me think about what actually goes into or on the food we eat from day to day. The total we spent here was roughly $60.0 for two lunch time meals, a couple of coffee’s and juices along with the popsicle which was pretty good we thought.

Parking is readily available inside the compound or on the side street surrounding it. A 50m walk will bring you to a spacious car park where parking was free on weekends which was when we went.

Staff here were very welcoming and seemed pretty chill which you would expect at a place like this. We were advised of a 15 min wait on drinks and 30 for food but we think they were hust being cautious as it was pretty busy so as to not disappoint expectations. Luckily drinks came out in a few minutes and food with 15min.

We decided to venture out onto the compound afterwards. It was quite a warm day (33.5C) so we didnt spend too much time at the Organic Grocery but it was quite an amazing experience knowing that any and all produce stocked would have just travelled a few meters to where it sits. Music playing by a local band to liven the atmosphere and some dancing by random locals at the centre of the courtyard. This place really stuck true to its organic roots as you notice that they even have organic bulk food and liquid as environmentally friendly cleaning products that you are able to take by bringing your own recycled plastics and glass jars. Having purchased a few staple items, we then went off to the nursery.
The nursery was vast and had multitude of options which we had to focus on what we needs. A few herbs along with some flowers to help enable pollination and plant health. Even grabbed a bundle of hay and some compost.

What a beautiful place to visit and wouldnt mind going back again and again. Till next time, this is Our Foodie Find!

    Saturday afternoon lunch stop.
Ordered the eggs on crumpets and Korean chicken burger.
Eggs – ok, a little weird on the crumpets as they were rather gooey on the inside. Babaganoush was also an interesting flavour but not to my liking.
Chicken burger was ok but not too much flavour.
Ceres with all of its fresh produce failed to deliver on their menu.

Staff – great, attentive and friendly
Coffee – excellent, especially in their mugs

I was so disappointed with the overpriced chicken burger I had there today. There was a teaspoon of coleslaw in it and more bun than filling. I should have complained but I just wont eat there again. My friend had the spelt pasta with house pesto which was yummy but small and also ridiculously overpriced.

Homely & solid breakfast, not a great variety nor was my mix done with any particular flair or flourish. Absence of service was tiresome – water there, cutlery there. We won’t tell unless you ask & we certainly won’t reach over & pass it to you even though it’s quiet & we’re in front of you. But I’d do that for a friend or at my home right? Guess they don’t want to raise expectations.
