This cafe has been around for while and it looks dated, rundown and way past its heyday. But I decided to give it a go recently, one late Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately it was not a wise decision as I suffered the consequences of this decision the next day and beyond.

Went for a hamburger with the lot special with chips, my wife went for bacon and eggs and my son (2 years) luckily had his home prepared soup from home. Also bought coffees which were passable. Service was prompt but not welcoming.
However my concern was the burger looked appetising but was drowned in sauce which if I had known at the time was not a good sign.
It tasted average but it was late arvo after shopping and I was starving and I though nothing much of it. Luckily the missus only pinched some chips of me, which were average- hot but not crispy soggy at best.
It filled my hunger but felt very bloated and uncomfortable, dizzy after that. That evening didn’t want dinner and then things got worse, sweating, running to bathroom, restroom from 10:00 onwards. One of the scariest night my family and I have endured. The next day was weak as anything, dizzy, pale like I had seen a ghost. Had no energy/strength to hold my son. Did not fancy being food poisoned! Awful experience required medical help that day.

I can’t believe this place served food unfit for consumption. It is a disgrace and I would avoid this place. Might look nostalgic and a bargain but not worth it, most customers stick to their coffees for hours end anyway for a reason.
I have been to Northcote cafe espresso since and we’ll worth the effort. Took me some time to have confidence to eat out again. Don’t wish that experience on anyone.
    Take care, cheers everyone.

We hesitated because the place is a bit old and run down. However, we were quite surprised that the food tasted really good. Delicious, schnitzel roll made fresh and the hot chips were amazing, crunchy on the outside and soft in the middle. Couldn’t stop eating them.
I will never judge a book by it cover again.
