We had visited Tinker twice and both visits did not disappoint at all! Heres what we had!
Waffles eggs benedict – pulled smoke beef brisket with sweet potato crisps and poached eggs with chipotle hollandaise on cheddar cornbread waffle! What more could you ask for? The beef brisket was so soft and juicy and the cheddar cornbread waffle was such a good touch to it!
Jaffa hotcakes – this was so good that we ordered it during both visits! Orange blossom hotcakes with orange curd, vanilla mascarpone and strawberries! The hotcakes were super fluffy and thick and the orange sauce was the highlight of the day as it added a sweet flavoring to the moist hotcakes! This is why it was my favorite of the day both times!
Mango and saffron panna cotta – served with vanilla, almond and cranberry granola and fresh fruits! This was a perfect combo as all the elements worked well together – sweetness of panna cotta, granola and the fruits! The presentation was pretty impressive as well!
Breakfast bowl – similar to a poke bowl, this was a bowl served with goodness! Cashew pesto quinoa served with avocado, kale, cherry tomatoes, haloumi, yoghurt, a poached egg and pita chips with an addition of salmon, not only was this healthy but a delicious meal! The sourness of yoghurt on the quinoa matched the savoriness of the other elements!
Overall, we had a fantastic time at Tinker and would go back to have the rest of their dishes or even order the same ones again!
I was keen to check out this cafe because of the numerous glowing reviews. Unfortunately I did not see what all the fuss is about. The meals we ordered looked pretty and so did the other meals that we saw being served. The food was fine, it was nice but not spectacular. The prices are quite ridiculous (food and drinks) especially with the sunday surcharge (which we were not verbally told about). Ok, but I wouldn’t return given the price.
Some slay breakfast shots for you! Im dreaming of this bowl and its transporting magic which had me thinking I was laying by a pool in 28 and eating this Mango panacotta muesli in all its glory. It is everything it looks and so much more. This awesome brunch spot, with its creatively styled dishes will have me coming again in no time. Found in Melbournes Inner North on a road with plenty of shops to keep you entertained for a good days walk about, so I guess Ill see you there on weekends!
+ Food is delectable, coffee, creative dishes, great location, chill atmosphere
– Service a bit slow and inside has a clinical vibe
When it comes to iconic Melbourne brunch cafes, Tinker has to be top of the list. It’s a very trendy cafe, that’s packed every day of the week. Despite it always being busy, the service is good and the food arrives in a timely manner.
The mango saffron panna cotta is the iconic dish and it’s delicious. The panna cotta is a 5/5 for texture, very creamy and the mango flavour is prominent. You also get a decent serve of granola, making this one of the more filling panna cotta dishes in Melbourne.
Also tried the smashed peas and the presentation was fantastic but we thought the peas themselves needed more seasoning.
A great place for brunch overall though, just be aware it gets quite noisy inside during the peak times.
Tinker is definitely one of the best places on the Melbourne brunch scene. Both dishes we ordered were winners.
The Waffle Eggs Benedict came with smoked pulled beef brisket, poached eggs, watercress and sweet potato crisps on cheddar corn waffles. The chipotle hollandaise added a nice touch to the dish.
The Jaffa Hotcakes are a must try! The orange blossom hotcakes came with orange curd, dark chocolate swirled meringue, strawberries and vanilla mascarpone. The dish had the perfect balance of acidity and sweetness.
The Peanut butter and raspberry & the mango smoothies were both delicious and refreshing.
One of the cats got a skinny latte which he said was the made to perfection.
Customer service was prompt and friendly despite the place being so busy. Portion sizes were also generous.
Overall, /5. Highly recommended and we will defintely be back to sample more items from the menu!

I had the pleasure of being invited along to try out the menu at Tinker. I havent been blind enough not to see the great dishes on IG and my wife have raves about the place since her last visit over six months ago (see her review below).
We started off with a coffee and a smoothie… choosing the peanut butter and raspberry smoothie which was think and delicious and a meal in itself.
My dining buddy ordered a brunch classic, the herb and feta smashed avocado with a poached egg for good measure. This was a great looking dish and there was a good texture to it with toasted seasoned, radish and cherry tomatoes.
For brunch main I ordered the Levantine Chicken dish. This was a spiced grain salad but a whole lot more. Pumpkin and pomegranate, labne and halloumi, feta and pistachio, and a poached egg sitting proud top centre… this was a superb dish that I only felt was let down slightly by the small amount of actual chicken in this dish. It was definitely there but not in any great quantity.
Lastly we tried the Jaffa hotcakes for a brunch dessert. This was a truely perfect dish. Light and fluffy orange blossom hotcakes with a orange curd, crumbled chocolate swirl meringue, strawberries and mascarpone. Winner winner winner. A great combination of flavours and textures.
Actually a great combination of flavours and textures really sums up my entire dining experience at Tinker today.
Really enjoyed coming along as an invited plus one.

I have been wanting to come to Tinker for some time and was glad to see it was in walking distance of the Palace cinema in Westgarth. We stopped in here for a pre-movie meal and our timing was great, as we didnt have to wait and were seated straight away.
I ordered the aa breakfast bowl, it looked very pretty and was just as tasty, I loved the peanut butter inclusion. I loved its taste and the texture with the other ingredients, especially the yoghurt.
My celiac friend ordered poached eggs, with a side of smoked salmon and a potato parmesan rosti. He loved having tasty options available. Unfortunately they didnt have lactose free milk so he brought his own small long life along and they were happy to heat that up for him.
The staff were lovely and the service was great, efficient and friendly without being pushy or making us feel rushed.
I love a healthy green breakfast bowl and Tinker produce my current favourite. Perfectly sauted kale with pesto, avo, quinoa, poached egg and halloumi… Yum! The place can get crowded and the seating area can feel quite squishy, but if you can deal with that this trendy cafe won’t disappoint. A great menu!
