My partner has a penchant for Indonesian cuisine, so I decided to take him to Yunis Kitchen for his birthday, having had it bookmarked for quite some time.

We started with the rissoles and satay ayam. The rissoles were soft and gooey on the inside and delightfully crunchy on the outside. The satays were amazing! The peanut sauce was delicious and we could taste the smokiness of the chicken, which was really tender and juicy.

For mains, he chose the Nasi Campur Ayam while I had Chicken Laksa. His dish came with grilled chicken plus several other components where his favourites were the chicken itself and the urap (Javanese vegetable salad). My laksa had a generous amount of ingredients, with plenty of chicken and vegetables. The broth was creamy yet not too heavy.

We also shared a portion of Bebek Betutu. It is described on the menu as twice cooked duck in exotic spices and exotic was exactly what it tasted like. The meat was so tender that it fell off the bone as we picked it apart.

Speaking to Yuni, one cannot help but sense her passion and enthusiasm for cooking and her food says it all. Every ingredient on each dish tasted fresh and I love the fact that they use free range chicken.

We might not be back so soon as we live about 45 minutes away. Nonetheless, Matt and Yuni, thank you for a lovely birthday lunch.

I hear if you want to try authentic Indonesian then you got to try Yunis. We went on a cold winter night and the place was rather quiet. The laksa is rich and contains a lot more coconut compared to the standard Malaysian ones Im used to. The nasi campur ayam was a collection of goodies. Beautifully presented. Highlights: trying Indonesian for the first time. Lowlights: a little disappointed with the ayam but more due to my own ordering choice!
