After reading about this place in the new york times article I was extremely excited to try this pork gyros that blew Sam Sifton’s mind !
The souvlaki itself was fine, the pork was tender and had alot of flavour , the chips inside seasoned but nothing mind blowing as I was expecting
The lamb kebab was mouth watering and the salad that accompanied it was just what the dish needed, I ordered a small ( which I was so happy about as the serving size was extremely generous) but only to find out they had charged me for a large
Kalimera has been around for quite some time, with good reason . I noticed a great review written up that was proudly on display and after eating agreed entirely. The main souvlaki meat used is chicken or pork, the chicken is tender and the flavours are perfect. Salad is simple, classic, Greek and a great accompaniment to a meal. Chips are cooked as desired. Staff friendly and reasonable waiting time.
Wow what a delicious place in the burbs. I know Oakleigh is reknown for Greek food, but this place is legit!
Ok, I need also warn you, Kalimera is famous for its PORK souvas… yes, PORK!
So delicious, moist, tender, not oily!! Chips are amazing too!
We ordered 1 Pork platter (so much deliciousness in one bowl/plate and 1 lamb souva (minced lamb).. the pork won! For someone who loves lamb (lamb is my favourite protein), this pork souva is a game changer. Delicious!
Please visit if you havent tried!
Went with a mate to Kalimera, ordered the gyros pork souvlaki which comes with chips inside the souvlaki with pork, pitta bread, raw onion, tzatziki and tomato with a sprinkle of what seems like paprika. This souvlaki is probably one of the most delicious ones I’ve had, the pork tasted like crispy delicate pieces of meat, the pitta bread was fresh, raw onion and tomatoes were tasty and the tzatziki was well balanced with a finish of sprinkled paprika. Definitely worth a try, would highly recommend
Great atmosphere/ambience. Food was very flavoursome. We had the pork souv and lamb platter. Next time will be trying the pork or chicken platter – the lamb only comes as minced.
My cousin suggested this place for a family dinner catch up the other night and since they do not take reservations here, all five of us decided to meet up outside before proceeding in together.
Upon entering, there was no one to greet us, so we stood there for a few moments dazed and confused as to whether we should sit ourselves down, before a staff member behind the kitchen counter told us to pick a table.
Its an order and pay at the counter system here, so after browsing the menu, we headed up to counter and placed our orders of: Chicken Gyros Platter, Pork Gyros Platter, Homemade Dips Platter, Greek Salad and beers.
All the dips were delicious and went well with the soft and lovely pita bread. Both the meat platters had good flavours all round, although slightly dry and the chips were good. Out of the two platters, the pork was actually the better one and the side of Greek Salad added a refreshing symmetry to our meals.
The basic service here was no issue at all, it just would have been nice to at least get a smile or some enthusiasm from the seemingly only floor staff member.
