Oakleigh reversed; the Leighoak used to be a reliable pub with fantastic pub fare; wonderful staff and reasonable prices. The staff and food is still there; unfortunately prices have risen. Diners have taken the back seat to Pokies; making it an uncomfortable place to visit now. If you dont mind the smaller dining area; its not all that bad.
Had dinner here last Thursday night. Staff were friendly and helpful but that was the highlight. Meals were far too big (way too many fries & mash potato), and over priced for basically pub food. Chefs need to get out and about and see what the competition is serving up and the place needs to understand it’s clientele and price the meals accordingly. There was certainly nothing that would draw us back to the place. Step it up!
The best things on the menu here are the casual dining items on the bar menu which you frustratingly cannot order from the bistro… even when you’re the only table there on a Friday night apparently. Overpriced for average pub food, dark and unwelcoming interior. I won’t be coming back. The best thing I experienced here was the lovely waitress.
We usually eat here every few weeks but got a rude shock when we returned today following a break over Christmas. What used to be a spacious, open dining room is now filled with pokies and the area given over to dining is dingy and filled with pillars and dividing walls. The only view to the outside is of trucks on the highway. There is a constant distracting hum, probably from the cooling system. Whereas it was all on one level before, now there are steps or a two person lift that have to be negotiated to reach the dining area. Access to the pokies however is a breeze. As gambling has been made a priority over my dining experience, I will look elsewhere. A pity because we always enjoyed our visits.
I’ve now been here twice and both times enjoyed my food. The menu is simple, but well executed. Very well priced and service is good.
Not Bad, Not Bad…… Thank you.
