The concept of Food Tales is an interesting one, and not something I had tried before. I was interested to see how this modern Indian Italian fusion would work, and I was pleasantly surprised at how well the two cuisines work together. Food Tales is easy to find on a main street in Ormond, and the restaurant is comfortable with lots of natural light. The host and staff are very welcoming, and very good at explaining the concept, and suggestibg dishes from the extensive menu. We decided to start with a good mix of entrees, to get a taste of the food on offer. Indian style satay chicken skewers were moist and flavoursome, with just a good amount of heat. The calamari was tender, but not my favourite choice on the plate. The arancini balls were seasoned well, and were perfectly crunchy on the outside, with a delicious rice filling. My favourite though, was the Indian inspired bruschetta. I found the curry flavours added to traditional bruschetta toppings added an extra level of flavour, and I really enjoyed this one. We were really keen to try the pizzas, as they sounded amazing, and our choice didn’t disappoint. We chose the Tikka Masala paneer pizza and it was fabulous. The idea of a zingy curry on top of a pizza base is inspired, and certainly has a completely different flavour profile than the traditional Italian or American style pizza. This is one area where this kibd of fusion really worked. The pizza was generous in size, and there was heaps of topping, making this a real flavour bomb. My son is a big fan of chicken parma, so we had to try Food Tales version. Again, this was topped with a Tikka Masala curry sauce, and chopped vegetables; and it proved to be very popular. Mr 16 gave it two thumbs up, and we all enjoyed something a little different. The chicken itself was cooked perfectly, and there was a bounty of delicious chips and salad on the side. I couldn’t visit without trying one of the traditional dishes, so we chose a delightful fish curry. The curry sauce was spicy and aromatic, and the beautifully prepared fish sat atop a nice pile of rice, which was great to sop up all the amazing sauce. This dish was faultless, and I can’t pick a favourite from the mains, as we loved them all. Not to be outdone, the dessert menu is also lots of fun. A traditional sticky date pudding was sensational with it’s addition of lots of spice. The balance was perfect, and the butterscotch sauce was divine. The chocolate mud cake was served warm with an abundance of gooey chocolate sauce, and the ice cream was creamy and delicious. A favourite for the kid in all if us is the dessert waffle pizza. A crispy waffle base was topped with loads of Nutella, sprinkles, marshmallows and M&Ms. This is so naughty, but so good in every way, and it really went over well with all of us. Food Tales is a lovely restaurant that is great for a family outing, or even a more intimate date night. The lovely staff will ensure that you have an amazing time, and your taste buds will thank you for trying this heavenly combination of flavours. Indian and Italian fusion really does work, and this fantastic restaurant has nailed it.
Fantastic homely restaurant that’s well worth a visit! I don’t write reviews very often, but I would love for more people to know about Food Tales.Came here tonight with my boyfriend and shared a butter chicken, spag bol and mud cake for dessert, all of which were absolutely scrumptious. Best of all is the service of the chef/waiter who so obviously demonstrated genuine care for all of his patrons, spending time to understand their personal preferences to incorporate into his cooking and challenging me to try something new – I will most certainly come back and do so!Thanks Zomato Gold for introducing this little gem to me. An awesome way to end my night and left me feeling in such good, well-fed spirits. 10/10.
An absolute hidden gem where one can find great recipes in fusion with different cuisines. We had Butter chicken parma, white sauce penne pasta and both these dishes were mouth watering and super delicious. A complementary bruschetta was icing on the cake. Chef Naveen is really amazing and respects everyone’s personal taste and endeavors to add that touch. Absolutely loved coming here.
A cosy restaurant with friendly staff, Food Tales is a unique menu that is full of favourites with an Indian twist. On our visit we tried the Bruschetta, Chicken Tikka Masala Pizza, Beetroot Croquettes, Chicken Satay Skewers and Khichundi with Barramundi. For dessert we had the Brownies and the traditional warm carrot pudding.I was very impressed with the pizza. They have a massive pizza selection so I would definitely come back to try out more of these!
Amazing food and the staff were so attentive and nice. Highly recommend!
Waited ages for them to ask us if we wanted drinks/to take our order. Got our order wrong even though it was a very quiet night, and each meal came about ten minutes apart. We were a table of 4. Pizza was good enough, but the service timing really needs to improve if they want to succeed here. Nice guys
