Absolutely love this place!! The new owner is really friendly and very accommodating. We came in with someone who is vegan and he made sure that the food was vegan friendly 🙂 serving sizes are definitely enough to share a few dishes between a group.
Service great. Found a hair in my take away food last time. Mistakes happen so thought of ordering again tonight . And again: hair in my food! Disgusting and so disappointing. I dont think they have any food hygiene whatsoever considering the occurences. Waste of my money twice and I will not order from them again.
Ordered take away tonight. First time in a while as I have struggled to find a decent Chinese restaurant in this area. Expectations were low. We ordered chicken and cashews, roast pork and vegetables, and beef and oyster sauce. I was impressed with the freshness of the ingredients. You could taste individual meat and veg within the dish and did not taste like it came out of a can (like others I have tasted in the surrounding suburbs)
I thought the flavors were a little mild for me though overall had a lovely meal.
‘Gourmet No.1’ is a local Chinese shop in Pakenham, we ordered the Family Pack which is $51.20 for bag of pawn crackers, 8 homemade dim sims or 8 homemade spring rolls, then 3 choices out of about 12 main dishes, along with a large special fried rice and 1.25litre bottle of drink. At first i thought $51.20 seemed expensive but when we opened the food containers the serving sizes were excellent. The meat to vegetable ratio was perfect, alot of meat which you usually dont get. We ordered the chicken and vege in curry sauce, sweet chilli chicken and beef and black bean and couldnt fault any of it. We really enjoyed it and it was well worth the $51.20!
Ordered a family pack . They managed to get one out of 3 dishes right . The curry beef I ordered was honey flavoured no curry at all . So I called just to let them know as we live 20 km away was to late to take it back . The response from a rude Asian lady was that was what you ordered . Well I know exactly what we ordered and it certainly wasn’t what we wanted .. so my dog got 50 odd dollars worth of Chinese food . Least one of our family enjoyed the meal but to be honest he is happy with any quality of food so not a great food critic . I would avoid it with a much better option just around the corner .
Went to dinner with friends and family, and had a great night at John’s restaurant. Food was excellent and the service was fantastic. John the NEW owner treated us like kings. Will definitely be going back.

Myself and my partner went to gourmet no 1 last week and The dumplings were amazing and awesome service !! After the new management the food is just delicious and very fresh! Would defiantly recommend!!! Also the manager John takes great pride within his business and made sure our food was as we liked it and if not was happy to change ! Love love it
