What a delicious dinner, we had the seafood and beef stew, the seafood was incredibly fresh. The complementary freshly baked bread with rosemary and olive oil was quickly eaten whilst sipping on local Pinot. The intimacy of the dining room, open fire and wonderful service made this a perfect raining evening for date night.

What a wonderful experience from the cozy, fairy lights, folk charm decor to the friendly, generous of spirit wait staff to the local produce meals – everything was really nice, not overdone and relaxed. Highly recommended – I’d say try the winter salad but the menu changes based on what local produce is available.

Something of a mixed bag (and would have preferred to give it 3.5 stars). Cozy little spot – oldest inn in Port Fairy, lots of atmosphere, very friendly staff. Excellent wine list – how good is it to see a quality restaurant cater for all tastes with wine starting as little as $35 (we had an excellent South African red for $48).There were six of us with a different perspectives on food served. Soufflé – thumbs up (2 people), quail – ok (1 person), fish broth with ravioli – definite thumbs up, crispy sardines – ok (sixth person did not have starter).Of the mains, the snapper was a hit (same person who had the fish broth – she had the best meal by far): house-made duck-egg pasta  on the dry side (2 people): smoked duck too smoked (2 people); loin of pork nice.Overall, food quality and service (and wine) was of a high standard but food a little too inconsistent considering bill was in the $500 range for 6 people (including a few desserts).

Really do love this place – we have eaten dinner here twice (and stayed at the inn twice). The staff are so friendly and so knowledgeable about the drinks list and the food – where it is sourced, how it is sourced, and so on. The meals are always solid – perfectly cooked snapper with succulent artichokes and a delicious sauce, savoury and herb-filled cheese souffle, crispy skinned duck with beautiful roast veggies, inventive and seasonal salad of pomegranate, quince and garden leaves . . . A bit on the pricey side but honestly, overall so worth it! Do recommend, esp for a date night.

My main meal was a bit of a disappointment as the pasta I ordered was bland. We also weren’t told about the Tbone not listed on the menu and overheard a waiter telling another table – after we’d already ordered. I would’ve loved that. Unfortunately the three wait staff blatantly ignored us for the second half of our meal, tending only to tables around us, and we waited with our credit card and the bill for 20 minutes before anyone came to receive payment. It was a shame as they’d been so lovely to us upon entry, but just soon forgot we existed in a not-very-busy restaurant. I gave it three stars because my partner loved his whiting, and our shared entree salad was fresh and lovely.
