I work just a small walking distance away, but never made a solid effort to come here for lunch in the past.
But one day, I was extremely hungry, I was really stressed, and I thought it was about time I get to Port Park Cafe for a lunch and somewhere to cool off.
Prices are high, but reasonable, considering the very generous portion sizes. The plates are really big, so be careful with what you choose to eat, you will end up asking for takeaway!
Despite eating past the busy lunch hour, I was still very spoilt for choice, as the range of hot food available was expansive. I ordered a chicken schnitzel with vegetables, two potato cakes, fries and a large bottle of coke. The staff were friendly and accommodating, and they noticed I was very hungry and they certainly did not disappoint on value and portion size!
Schnitzel had a rustic vibe, was herby and very flavourful, vegetables speak for themselves, potato cakes were a bit bland for my liking, though I’ll give an exception since I am for one who really likes salt, and someone else may be able to taste salt. Fries were tasty and a bit greasy, but I do love grease so no worries at all!
The cafe is a quiet environment, making it a very pleasant place to eat in. It is cozy inside, but outdoor seating is also available.
It is a solid recommendation for me, if you looking for a big feed for lunch, and a pleasant space to wind down and enjoy. Now excuse me, I’ll be getting off my chair and heading back to Port Park Cafe the moment it goes lunchtime!
