Cute cafe hidden away from the busy Port Melbourne Bay Street , this find was purely a random drive past….

Great coffee and selection of sweet treats and the 3 layer red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting looked so good will have to come back just to try that. Great selection of open sandwich slices , I had the haloumi with smashed avocado and peas with chilli and pear jam…. delicious.

We visited this hidden gem the other day and fell in love with the rustic interior and homely vibe .

Specialising in cakes and pastries, Tartisan also offers brunch where the menu is based on the concept that everything is served on a tartine ( open faced sandwich )

We ordered the coffee cured salmon, smashed avo and haloumi on the cauliflower paleo bread. The coffee cured salmon was absolutely outstanding ! You could really detect the coffee notes on the salmon and the flavour was very subtle but distinct enough

The smash avo although simple had great flavour, the poached eggs on top was poached to perfection and we loved the dip that was spread on the bread

The haloumi tartine was very generous with the amount of haloumi cheese provided, the cauliflower bread below tasted better than normal bread I would come back just for this bread

We also tried a few sweet pastries which are all made in house, I loved hwo they have a lot of gluten free and vegan options- we tried a few and they were just as good as any other cake I have had. We loved the almond cake, the friand and the cupcakes we sampled

Thanks so much for having us !

Hidden in the quiet streets in Port Melbourne, Tartisan is the newest edition of cafe/artisan bakery in the area. Serving all savoury Tartins and also sweet ones and also a wide range of freshly baked goods daily.
I visited a few weeks ago with a friend and also brought Cupcake my little toy poodle and had the best time. Starting with a iced coffee and ice tea, sitting outside in the sun. Followed by our brunch dishes – duck ragu with low carb cauliflower bread which was amazing and I love how I dont feel guilty and can save my calories for more cake!
My friend had the mixed mushroom, poached egg and prosciutto.

It was really interesting when I spoke to the owner and advised as the building is heritage, theyre not permitted to install a fryer. Meaning no fried eggs, no bacon, no scrambled eggs. Which I know is disappointing for some, but I find it quite refreshing and I respect the reasons why. It also means the chefs/owners has had to learn to be very creative and change their way of cooking. They have a pretty intensive menu given their limitations 🙂

Last but not least, we had a good selection of sweets such as the blood orange galette with a rustic crust and pandan chiffon cake. Which was an absolute winner for me. It was so fluffy and bouncy, highly recommended from me.

Overall, Tartisan is a great addition to Port Melbourne and Melbourne! I could have sat there for hours, sipping a coffee, eating cake and people watch.
