We booked a table and were running late so we called and let them know prior to our booking time that we would be 15 minutes late. The lady on the phone was very nice and friendly saying that we would miss out on some food but she would try to save some for us and we were fine with it because it was actually our fault for running late.
We got there 10mins late and at first everything seemed great. Service was great and there were a lot of food options to choose from. Towards the end of the sessions they brought out some desserts and we said we were still eating the savoury dishes so we asked whether it was ok for us to grab those sweet sesame balls dessert later once we finished, they said it was fine. So when we were ready for dessert, we asked for those sesame balls and they said they ran out and it would take them half an hour to bake and our session time was up so they needed to clean our table to prepare for the next session (basically a nice way to say they need to kick us out). I was not impressed by their answer. So in the end we still did not get to try any desserts which were included in the yumcha price we paid per person and we were not impressed by their answer and the customer service quality we received. Well this would be my first and last time here! Plus food was just average not that impressive. I know other yumcha places which offer more options and better food quality.

Cute and modern, very different from the usual yum cha setting . Great service too. I think 20 different dishes came out at different time, 4 of them being dessert options. So make sure you get some room till the very last one! Our favorites would be the prawn spring rolls in tofu skin, prawn dumplings and banana fritters.

    I would rate Davids 4
Great location next to Prahran and hidden a bit off the Main Street . Love the traditional building and unique interior design. Services are outstanding , Davids just passed its 20 year-old birthday. For such a long time operation, Davids still keep their quality of service ! Im not a big fan of Shanghai Food. However , I would like to give some reviews about dishes I tried .
    # Peking duck
Canton style peking duck, authentic Peking duck is more crispy and melt. In Beijing , people need wrap the duck by them self with wider ranges of sources . As I dont like onions , I need to pick it out .

    #Scented Tea
excellent you should give a try . Smell so good and healthy

    # Stir Fired Egg Whites
Thats my favourite , perfect pair with steam rice

    #fried vege
Forgot the exactly name . Normal tasting

Great place to dine out with family and friends . They also open for event . Reservation recommended .

This is my family’s all-time favourite place for yum cha in Melbourne! They have weekend sittings for all-you-can-eat for just $40 and the food just keeps coming! You get a selection of everything on offer and then by the end, you can ask for extra of your favourite dishes.

It’s always a full house on weekends but the food comes flying out of the kitchen so fast, you’re never sitting around waiting. The staff all have smiles on their faces and it’s just such a fun and friendly vibe. Couldn’t recommend David’s more, it’s a fabulous restaurant!!

Was super impressed with the dcor as soon as we walked into David Prahan, an unassumingly trendy fit out that felt intimate but modern. The food was a real winner. Id recommend all of their dumplings, really light wrappers and high quality produce.

Loved the sweet chunky eggplant from ‘David’s favourites’ Menu as part of the main course and the pork and spinach dumplings in a peanut and chilli soy.

Id say this place is suitable for date nights, bdays or a catch up with friends.

Unlimited Yum Cha! Interesting modern flavours eg. White chocolate mochi balls, green skin har gow prawn dumplings, peking duck pancakes were so full of meat! ate too many! They are so fresh and comes out so quickly! Not enough tummy to store it all lol

Well, that was certainly an experience. $45 for yum Cha I though was expensive, and also all you can eat? Hmm.. usually that means they fill you will the cheap stuff. But… if you want about 20 courses and survive on one meal a day then this is the place to come!

Stick to a nice pot of tea (or even with the roses for something a bit different) and stay off the booze (and maybe skip breakfast) to get ready for the deluge of food that is to follow. And dont get offended when they only offer one of each course as youre going to need the stomach room to last to the end! The sitting was 90 minutes long and I dont think there was more than about 2 minutes between more food being placed in front of you. All you can eat? Youre doing well if you eat one of everything and make it to the 3rd dessert. If you have a sweet tooth I suggest not eating all the savouries and have multiple courses of the dessert!

On to each of the courses.

BBQ pork bun – excellent. Best Ive had anywhere. Fluffy bun, very sweet and beautiful bbq pork and lots of it. Importantly just the right temperature. Dont be tempted by more than one.

San Choi Bow – ok. Its never been my favourite but not enough sauce.

Rice paper prawn roll – very generous servings of prawn, very tasty. They serve with kewpie mayonnaise but needs a bit of chilli (on the table).

Spring onion pancake – a classic well done. Not too heavy or oily. Loved it. Dont eat too much of this or its too filling.

Szechuan chicken ribs – needs a bit more heat but very tasty.

Dumplings – These were definitely the highlight. They had the meat basket, the prawn basket and the siu mai. The Siu Mai was fantastic. I took the photo of the half eaten one to show you how thin the skins were.

This was the same with all of the dumplings. The har gou is of course the ultimate test of the dumpling chef and this was amazing. Very thin translucent skin that stayed intact, didnt stick to your mouth, generous serve of filling but not too big. You hardly noticed the skin as you ate the dumpling. If you could get your hands on a second basket of the prawn selection I would definitely do it.

Chilli oil dumplings – Very thin tasty skin again. Probably not enough chilli but showed refinement.

Dumpling in soup and noodles – kinda like a wonton but those noodles and broth is my favourite type of noodle soup. most enjoyable.

Eggplant – very flavourful, a great dish

Vegetarian spring rolls – Nothing special – if anything it’s a bit big. Avoid this one if you need to make room.

Salt and pepper squid – Just ok. Squid and batter was a bit thick there wasnt enough salt or chilli

5 spice beef – this is a bit of a divisive one. I loved the tender beef and the flavour but my dining companion didnt. It might be an acquired taste.

Vegetarian fried rice – Your standard fried rice. Avoid if you are getting full

Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce – need more of this. Always need more green stuff in your life!

Starting to get real full at this point

Ginger prawn dumplings – Excellent flavours of ginger and spring onions. They gave us the basket with 3 in it which was nice.

Peking duck – its not old kingdom. Pancake was a bit thick and duck had a bit too much meat and not quite enough sauce. Comparing to a place that specialises in this dish is a bit unfair – it’s good but I could go without.

Onto the dessert – well you really need to make room for this!!

Custard bun – amazing. Loved the texture taste and colour.

Sesame and chocolate dumpling – yum yum yum, sticky, chocolatey, amazing!

Fried banana – passed on this

Chocolate dumpling – I would have had more if I wasnt so full!

Overall a great experience. Id definitely be back. The service was friendly and attentive. Dont have any special dietary requirements as you really need to try everything. Sure not every dish is perfect, and its rather unusual for yum Cha as they served dishes from all the regional cuisine styles of China rather than usual Cantonese style. Make sure you fast beforehand!
