  • Hungry Little Dinosaur

One of my biggest peeves when eating out is ordering and then watching people who came in after me and ordered after me receive their food before me. This happened four times in the twenty five minutes I spent waiting for French toast. Mr Dinosaur had a coffee which was burnt and I got some stale French toast with over cooked mushrooms with a side of sandy unwashed spinach. It was not good. Service was friendly but inattentive. Not impressed at all.

We came here last weekend for a catch up. We enjoyed the fried cauliflower which was a tasty treat. We got the fried chicken bao which was delicious and the sweet potato waffle was slightly salty. We also tried the pumpkin salad which was generous in its serving. The staff was really friendly!

Points for: interesting and well executed menu with healthy options

I’ve always noticed a huge line outside the cafe whenever I drive past, which is a good sign.
Today I finally took the opportunity to come in to discover one of the inner suburbs’ best cafes.

I really like the menu – it reads very unassuming, but when the dish comes out, it’s well executed. The cafe is really hitting the cool kids in the area and also the IG crowd with its beautiful plating.

    * Raspberry & Coconut Pancakes – One of their signature dishes. It’s impressively stacked 3 cakes high and comes with a mixture of freeze-dried and fresh berries. Broken meringue scattered around the plate reminds me of an eton mess, one of my favourite desserts. I think the pancakes are more like hotcakes because of the thickness, and has a nice soft texture, similar to a muffin but not as light as a sponge cake. I like the crunchy edges from the cast iron pan.

    * Nourish Bowl – perfect example of a simple dish being well executed. Lots of different textures from the various grains and vegetables. Adding the poached egg gives it a little bit of luxury.

The coffee was also very well made – my strong latte was balanced with just enough bitterness, and the milk had a velvety texture.

The space is a little small inside (the reason for the line), but if you’re lucky enough to visit on a sunny day, grab a spot in the courtyard out the back.

Thanks to Costa and his friendly team for hosting me!
