La Tienda has bright colours, columbian music and good vibes. Unfortunately the food has significantly less character than the decor. Went with two friends and was underwhelmed by the food, it was very bland. It’s not a horrible place to eat, but an exceptionally forgettable one. Given the great location and awesome decor, hoping they can get past the poor quality food.
If you’re Colombian or have lived in/near Colombia before, you’ll recognise all your old favourites. Food was good, service was quick and friendly, and portions were large. A bit on the pricey side for this type of restaurant, but an overall positive experience. If you’ve never travelled to South America, your palate may not be used to this type of food, but worth a try if you’re looking for an authentic South American experience.
One Friday night on the tram, we went past La Tienda and commented that we were yet to try it out. So we changed our minds, got off the tram and grabbed a table. I love that the menu & drinks list look to be straight out of Colombia. The difficulty started when trying to decide what to order. I asked for description of the imported beers and the waitress struggled and just recommended her favourite. We attempted to make sense of the menu then ordered empanadas and arepa con chorizo for entree. My wife’s entree arrived 10 minutes before mine and so haphazard was the service that her main was delivered whilst I was still eating my entree. We sent it back and asked for a gap of 10-15 minutes before serving the mains. Probably a big mistake as the dishes were kept warm somewhere & redelivered. Trying to get another drink proved difficult on a night with only 3 other tables occupied. One person behind the bar was only interested in their phone and I had to wave my arms to get our waitress’s attention. It sounds awful to describe food as bland but in this case it really sums up our choices and the entrees were the highlight. It was only after we had finished that the waitress took an interest in what we ordered and gave us information about the menu – if only this had happened before we ordered. Something as simple as rewriting the menu with accurate descriptions & giving the food some love would be an easy way to improve the experience. Remember, not everyone has had Colombian food before.
