Delicious Tonkatsu with a crunchy crumb that is neither too oily too thick! Well done, Ton & Co!
I tried the Tonkatsu striploin with the onion gravy, and although less traditional, I enjoyed the onion gravy more than the Tonkatsu sauce. The coleslaw is well dressed as well. The dish as a whole (with a side of rice) was very filling and a great comfort meal on a cold evening.
Edamame portion was very generous.
The wine list had some good choices to accompany your meal.
Menu has been updated to include rice sets (with miso soup and/or a Kirin. Great idea!
Service is very friendly too! Fantastic addition to the Chapel Street precinct!
Finally managed to find the time to come here for dinner one night. Was surprised to see that it wasnt too busy, and we were able to be seated right away.
Its a small-medium sized casual industrial-y space, with the counter, bar and kitchen to one side. Service was decent, with one waitress floating around and serving everyone. There were 2-3 staff in the kitchen and we could see they were working really hard.
We ordered the ox tongue skewers, chicken thigh skewers, striploin tonkatsu with caramelised onion sauce and the tomahawk.
The ox tongue skewers were so soft and juicy with a lovely sauce. However I wish theyd hold back a bit on the sauce to let the meat shine more! The chicken thigh skewers were also cooked really well – chicken was juicy and moist, and it had the same marinade as the ox tongue skewers. Ox tongue >>> chicken thigh skewers purely due to the difference in the texture and flavour of the meat.
The tomahawk was beautifully crumbed and crisp, and the meat was delicious. It was soft and juicy, and with a beautiful fatty texture that melted in your mouth. The striploin and the sauce was also good, but the tomahawk is definitely the star of the mains menu.
We finished our meal with the matcha cheesecake and hojicha ice cream that fit the perfect spot. Both were delicious and washed down the grease from our meaty feast.
Though on the slightly pricier side, it is defintely worth coming here to experience what they have to offer. I cannot recommend the ox tongue skewers and tomahawk enough!
Best Tonkatsu in Melbourne!!! Lovely and very accommodating little shop hidden in Windsor. The Signature Pork Tomahawk is to die for, nice and pink (dont scare of the pink, they are cooked). Very juicy and tender pork, thin crispy lightly batter on the outside. The meat has been very well marinated, that you can taste it with every single bite. Service were great and speedy. Generous portion size. Certainly will be back very soon for seconds. Love it, highly recommended!!!
Been meaning to try out this modern Japanese tonkatsu eatery.
We were lucky to try out the striploin before they ran out. Taking 3-4 days to cure and rest the meat, the striploin with caramalized onions has a crispy, flakey batter with juicy pork insides.
The pork tomohawk is also juicy with a crumbed batter.
The decadent green tea cheese cake is rich and not too overpowering with the hourjicha icecream to match the dessert.
Service was prompt and the staff was very informative.
After reading One Piece Left review on Ton & Co, I have been wanting to visit badly. Finally got around to it and I wished that I had went sooner! The tonkatsu is out of this world! Biting into the tender and delicious meat, I was transported back to Japan.
The night actually started off with a hiccup when we were told that they had ran out of a number dishes, which was quite disappointing as we really wanted to try the pork belly and ox tongue. The lovely lady owner was so apologetic about this that we even we felt bad for letting our disappointment show.
With not much choices to choose from the menu, our party of 3 shared the tomahawk, striploin and katsu curry. The tomahawk was our preferred cut, as the fat and meat ratio was just spot on. The beauty golden batter on both cuts was evenly coated, and incredibly crispy and light. Even the curry sauce was amazing, and was obviously not just an afterthought to jazz up the pork.
We ended the meal with the matcha cheesecake and hojicha ice cream. The cheesecake nor the ice cream was perfect in term of consistency but flavour-wise, I had no complains.
The aforementioned lady owner was not only incredibly approachable and friendly, but also made an effort to come check up on us and asked for our thoughts on the meal. Couldn’t have asked for better service!
