Average country Chinese food and owners not friendly & maybe dodgy!
They have all your basics – sweet n sour pork, beef with blackbean etc. The ingredients are fresh but is was very salty! Even though we asked for less salt, it was still salty and in the end we had leave a few of the dishes behind.
We also asked for 2 buckets of plain boiled rice which came out half full (‘ok’ we thought, this must be your serving/portion size) but when we ordered our 3rd bucket of rice, the same bucket came out filled to the top. I have a feeling that the owner half filled the first buckets but the staff member filled the other bucket correctly.
The service by the young Caucasian teenager was very good and she was running the place on her own but the Asian owner and the chef were not very welcoming. We understand that they both may be shy due to their lack of English skills but a smile is universal.
We will not recommend this place for various reasons which include the pool of urine in the toilet.
Cheap and Cheerful. We had a great meal at the Fu Chinese Restaurant in Queenscliff. The staff are friendly and helpful. We order the chefs special combination and the peppered beef and a small rice. Both were of excellent value and tasty. The waitress is always polite and attentive. We thought it is great value for money. We will be going back again.
All good. Despite some opinions here that seem to be based more about a language barrier than the food, we think the food at Fu is excellent. It is south eastern Chinese, and although some seem to think the food has been changed to accommodate tastes of Australians, I would argue as China is massive and the food is different everywhere, how do they base their opinion? Ask the Queenscliff locals, they (and us Ocean Grovers) love it.
Possibly the worst restaurant I have ever dined in. Nothing to like about the food. Dined with a large group this evening and not one person would ever return. The only white wine on offer to buy was a cleanskin and waiter had no idea what it was. Bench seat and chairs uncomfortable. Amateurish. Don’t bother!
Dinner fail. We chose Fu restaurant over a pub meal last Thursday evening and were sadly disappointed. The service was prompt but there were some major communication issues with our waiter. I could forgive the language barrier but for the fact that I pointed to every item order as I ordered. The long soup came out wonton soup, the pork chow mein came out combination pork and was chewy and dry to boot. The dumplings were very small and in small servings. The prices were not very reasonable, $5 for a bowl of rice is steep in any Chinese restaurant. I will not return and would not waste my money here.
Incredible value. We love the lunchpacks from FU – a cooked to order Chinese dish like beef and black bean with special fried rice for just $8?! Seriously, there are places charging twice that for a toasted focaccia and this is a MEAL! This is great food at incredibly good prices. We’ve also had their dine-in dinners because we were so happy with their lunch take-aways – just as good.
This is a cute little restaurant at the Hesse street near the rail way station. The chinatique decor is appealing and cosy. The food is fresh and tasty although some meals have anglicized beyond recognition eg the chow mein. They still taste ok! The soups and rice were excellent and the spicy chicken wings were super tasty. The steamed dim sims are also good.
