Awful ambience, appalling service, some food almost inedible, some good. We had lunch here in August 2018 and were greeted by an elderly Asian man. After sitting, he simply stood behind a counter. We had to ask for menus which, when handed to us, were black-and-white photocopied folded pieces of paper, complete with food stains.

The restaurant has no ambience what so ever: gaudy paint, uncovered lightbulbs with no lightshades dangling from the ceiling and, even stranger, a sort of shrine set up on the floor complete with a glass of what looked like iced coffee. On the floor. Where a child could drink it. God knows how long it had been there.

There was no background music. None. Just the sound of what seemed like bickering from the kitchen.

My partner ordered tandoori chicken and rice. I ordered beef vindaloo and naan. After ten minutes the chicken tandoori arrived, followed about ten minutes later by his rice. There were two pieces of chicken, both wings with a piece of breast attached. The breast was so hard and dry, it was virtually inedible and, of course, there was little meat on the wings.

At least fifteen minutes after my partner’s meal arrived, my beef vindaloo arrived, followed later by the naan. The vindaloo was good, as was the buttery naan.

We were the first to arrive, so it wasn’t like they had other customers to serve resulting in the dishes coming out at different times. I can only begin to imagine what would happen were they busy.

Fix the ambience, fix the service, realise that breast chicken can’t be pre-cooked and reheated without drying out and this could be a good place in future.

Speedy pleasant service and reasonably priced. The wings were crispy and tasty. The rice paper rolls made fresh to order. If the Indian fair is as good as this we have found another post dive Queenscliff haunt.

Well be back to try another round next weekend. BYO only.
