Pros: decor and interior is amazing. The seats are very comfy. The flavours in the pork meat dumplings were good. Staff are also attentive and friendly.
Cons: unfortunately the food is subpar. The fried dumplings we ordered was not crispy at all. It was merely just streamed dumplings with a touch of browness. Prawn dumplings (har gow/ha cao) was not great, you could tell it was mixed with a lot of flour and not pure prawn. As well, the noodles were quite bland also. Beef in the noodles was of poor quality (it was a bit smelly).
Honestly a 2.5.
Everytime I am in Richmond, I will come to this place for a delicious dumplings round. Always exceeded my taste of dumplings. The staff are friendly and nice. Sometimes you can see the Chef standing at the back and look at everyone’s reaction after having the dish.
Excellent customer service.
I Love Dumplings is located on Bridge Rd; theres plenty of on street parking available, but you may have to park down a side street if you go during peak times (watch out for permit zones if you do).
We arrived around 8pm mid week and the restaurant was bustling, almost every table was filled (Id recommend booking if you wanted to go earlier or weekends). We were greeted & seated quickly; we had the option to order straight away, or to have a look through the diverse menu.
Drinks are fairly priced (house drinks were $6) and the food is also a fair price. We got 2 drinks, 2 dumpling dishes, 2 meat stir fried (these portions are huge so you could easily share one main between 2 people), a broccoli side, rice and desserts; I loved the custard bun and apple pie spring rolls- all that for $102.
We didnt finish everything but theres takeaway containers available so you can enjoy leftovers at home.
Staff were friendly and attentive and easily available if you needed anything.
Thanks for a great night!
This is one of the few times I wish I could give a higher rating for a restaurant… but Im basing this review on my own experience and of those who dined with me here. Now, the menu is nothing short of variety. There is plenty to choose from. (By the way, the amount of big, colourful, round stickers stuck on top of the old pricing – in the menu – to indicate the new pricing is quite messy to look at.) Amongst three people, we ordered the gluten-free pan-fried dumplings, steamed BBQ pork buns, fried rice and the homemade pork spare ribs with peanut. The first three were edible but the last one was just like eating spoonfuls of salt. So.much.saltiness. Im not sure who could have eaten that… The flour on the pan-fried dumplings were fairly thick as well… it missed out on that crispy texture, but thankfully the meat inside was nice. The fried rice lacked flavour considering how many ingredients were inside. Overall, the dishes (that we ordered) left us feeling unhappy. I can only hope that all the other items on the menu are a lot better! Service could also be improved. **NOTE: No split bills. No Amex.
Consistently attentive service, plenty of seats, always a good venue regardless of group size. (Might want to ring ahead for large groups though.) Dumplings vary in delivery speed, it could range from really quick (less than 5min) to something like a 15 minute wait, which does make for a bit of an awkward pause between servings. In terms of food quality, a definite step up from post-party Friday dumplings in Chinatown, IMO.
One of my preferred dumpling spots, regardless of location, but Richmond has always been good. More visits to come for sure!
