Mayday deserves a full 5 for the quality, taste, service and value.
Everything we ordered from the smoked salmon to Slow cooker Brisket to Burger was very good. Even the coffee and hot chocolates were awesome
Although the menu was very very brief (and after overpowering our initial inhibition) we had a fab time.
This cafe, like many others, is Vegan and Vegetarian friendly.
A must.
It was our first time visiting May Day and heres how we went!
Hot smoked salmon – served with fennel croquettes, rye crisp, dill and chive creme fraiche, and a poached egg, this dish was quite yummy! The smoked salmon was tasty and went well with the dill and chive creme fraiche (salty and sour combined)! The fennel croquettes were pretty lovely as it bursted with flavors in my mouth! It was a generous meal but was a bit too sour towards the end with the creme fraiche.
Benedict 5.1 – kaiserfleisch served with poached eggs, sauerkraut, seeded mustard hollandaise on a Parmesan and chive beignet, what more could you ask for?! The reason why this was my favorite was because I rarely see kaiserfleisch (which was so juicy and tender) and a beignet being used for a benny dish! The beignet was such a clever idea as it sweetened up a savory dish and complemented the other elements of the dish! In short, I absolutely loved it!
Buttermilk waffles – coming with maple jelly, seasonal fruits, frozen banana custard, toasted pecans and cinnamon mascarpone, this was my 2nd favorite dish of the day! Though quite simple looking, the addition of the maple jelly and frozen banana custard was such a great idea as it can be used as a spread for the waffles!
Overall, Mayday has definitely impressed us and it would be a real mayday if we did not visit again!
Mayday is such an amazing cafe and is one of those cafes that makes Melbourne famous for its brunch culture.
We were invited in to try their food and we genuinely enjoyed eating at Mayday. We started our meal with the espresso spritz, which is a shot of espresso in lemon/tonic and if I have to guess, there’s probably a tiny bit of syrup. It was amazing, probably one of the best take on cold coffee we have had.
For food, we had the croque madame, pineapple and macadamia bircher muesli and hot smoked salmon. The croque madame was divine, totally satisfied my morning. The bechamel was just perfect. Not a big fan of the salmon though. Lastly, the bircher muesli was also really good, the macadamia went really well with the whole thing.
We would definitely recommend to try this place. You won’t be disappointed.
Another super Melbourne cafe. The coffee is excellent and the breakfast quesadilla magnificent. This is one of my regular breakfast joints. Great location on Bridge Rd.
