If I could give this place more stars I would! Hidden away in the streets of Bridge road, this cute cafe sits modestly between some great shopping! The interior is a minimalist and beautiful which offers a variety of different seating options. But the best and most important aspect is the food! The food here is well presented, and absolutely delicious! Ive been a few times, but we had the hotcakes which come with a modest serving, and were perfectly cooked! We had the Mango aai bowl which was refreshing. Then finally the corn fritters, so full of flavour but not overwhelmingly fried. You still feel light and respectfully full after this. Highly recommend visiting these guys!
Ive been wanting to visit Monroe for over a year. Located in a fab spot in Richmond, with easy access to the 48 and 75 tram, this cafe has the most stunning interior. I love what they have done with it, from the beautiful marble to the two toned mirrors – stunning. Food was beautifully presented, the corn fritters were heaven! There is an Asian-influence with a stunning sauce served with them and they are perfectly crunchy. Love the coriander and fresh chilli. The smoothie bowl was popping and the fruit looked beautiful. Dont get me started on the gorgeous pancakes, they looked so good I forgot to try them!
The period after Christmas and before New Year always goes by in a blur. What day is it? Where is everyone? Should I continue on my post Christmas food binge or should I start eating healthy in anticipation of the new year? So many questions but so little answers.
So I let fate decide and as fate would have it, I needed to be in Richmond for an appointment so it would make sense to fill up my tummy beforehand, right? Since I have been eyeing Monroe for quite some time, that was my chosen tummy filling spot.
It was eerily quiet on a Sunday afternoon, and as such, there was minimal wait for our coffee and food to arrive. The skinny latte was lovely – balanced and smooth.
My partner and I decided to go down the simple and classic route with our food – scrambled eggs with bacon (Ruby Scrambled), and smashed avo (Avocado and Feta Smash). There was however nothing simple about the flavours of these two dishes. The green nam jim imparted a delectable combination of sweet, salty, spicy and sour flavours to the scrambled eggs, while the smashed avo was jazzed up with the addition of creamy and tangy feta, and sweet and earthy beetroot puree. There was however a definite need for more beetroot puree for the dish to reach its maximum potential. I also couldn’t detect what the black sesame seeds brought to the dish, so maybe another ingredient would achieve something more? Just a thought.
The service was very down-to-earth, and polite. Overall an enjoyable brunch experience.
Located in the center of Richmond, Monroe is a lovely place to have brunch.
I ordered croissant Benedict with mushrooms, loving the crispy texture of croissant.
The cold brew spritz means something with sparking water. How can I say no to such a refreshing dink? The cold brew spritz is creative.
3.5/5
Went for the eggs benny on croissant which sounded amazing, not 100% sure eggs benny works with croissant that well after trying it but still a good dish. Eggs cooke well, potato rosti was 10/10 but the feta was a bit of a let down. Nice fit out.
Had the opportunity to try the new @monroe_richmond and it was amazing! I enjoyed the kale salad, I just wish it was a little more filling with maybe some Quinoa or carbs. But Food was delicious and the fit out was funky as!
**3.5 stars** A big cafe which has clearly put in a lot of effort to create such a beautiful interior design that is both simple yet modern. Pastel pink and black are the main colours throughout the place. The cafe is also big enough to house a high ceiling and a long mirror on one side of the room. Theres plenty of seats (including a high communal marbled table at the front). Food wise, the presentation is great. Taste wise, we found the smashed avocado average at best. At $17.5, it was served with toast, sliced chilli, black sesame seeds and the slightest amount of beetroot puree (that was just brushed on the plate for presentation). We didnt choose to add poached eggs for $4 as we believe thats a pretty pricey sum for the classic breakfast meal. Meanwhile, the lemon, poppy seed & ricotta hotcake was much tastier. The flavours were well-balanced and the hotcake was warm and fluffy. The coffee was smooth while the golden latte was just perfect All-in-all, the ambiance was nice, the service was prompt however the staff were kind of emotionless?
