Got to try three of their small cakes which were on offer at Calia in Emporium.

The Raspberry Matcha Mousse seems to be the most popular, and it is probably my favourite out of the three. The combination of mild green tea flavour with the tartness of the raspberries is superb. The mousse is creamy and smooth, but also very light and not too sweet.

The Yuzu Meringue & Black Sesame Tart was delicious too. Im a huge fan of both Yuzu and Black Sesame – put the two together and that would be heaven! The black sesame is very very subtle in this dessert though, I think its mainly in the black sesame crisp at the top. Nonetheless, the Yuzu curd was nice and tart, and the meringue was fluffy and airy!

The Banana, Peanut Caramel Cube was also superb! The sweetest of the three (but definitely not overly sweet at all), filled with layers of mousse and cake and other goodness! You can definitely taste the banana! Plus, theres even a freeze dried banana on top!

All the cakes were absolutely stunning, and I would be more than excited to try the other ones, as well as their selection of pastries!

Occupying a small space behind Mayday, Penny for Pound serves up the most delicious croissants that doesn’t require me to queue up for hours beforehand. The smell wafting from the bakery is enough to send me into a delirious frenzy, and what a gorgeous selection of baked goods greeted me when I walked in.

The croissants are incredibly light, flaky and buttery, and the strawberry cheesecake croissant was generously filled with the most yummy filling in the centre. Same with the Nutella cruffin – it was finger licking good.

Coffee comes courtesy of Mayday, and there are only enough seats for 5 customers. Service is super friendly and helpful, and it’s a treat to be able to watch them in action making the croissants.
