Ive only been here once but from my experience, I liked it – A good place to catch up with friends or chill. I found the service wonderful and the atmosphere lovely. The staff were attentive as well. The food tasted fresh and healthy. The drinks were delicious too.
Came here for lunch. Standard Melbourne brunch menu with some pasta pizza burger items added for lunch. I had the steak sandwich but beef was really tough, flavour didnt stand out either. Friend had the potato hash which looked nice. Coffee was ok. Yeah, nothing really stood out, food, service or decor.
Ambience and service is really good. I really liked the Chilli crab omelet but the avocado dish was below average.. It didn’t have any flavor to it. Loved their coffees. But their hot chocolate was like Milo drink..
You seriously need to try this place for yourself and judge! The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive and the food lived up to my expectations! It was healthy, fresh and yum! We got the sweet potato fries, beetroot salad and eye fillet steak which was steakhouse quality! I also loved the healthy kombucha drink alternative, so good!
Excellent venue with fresh big meals that are excellent value for money. You won’t go hungry in this place. I had the quinoa salad with roasted beetroot, broccolini and chicken. It was amazing. So filling and fresh. And huge! The calamari looked amazing and the eggplant starter was so tasty. Burgers and really good too and served with sweet potato fries for something different. Service is is great and if you’re in for lunch it’s efficient service but you don’t feel rushed. Great for large groups, couples, or on your own for a quick bite. Open for breaky too.
St. James located on busy Bridge Road in Richmond is a modern cafe serving restaurant quality food in stylish interior. St James features a full brunch menu along with hearty dishes from pasta, to burger and risottos, the array of dishes is tremendous.
From the numerous cafes located on Bridge Road, St. James stood out due to its large glass windows lighting up the cafe creating a vibrant inviting atmosphere perfect for a late Sunday lunch. It was moderately busy with a steady flow of customers, mostly families dining in at this very family friendly cafe. We where greeted by overly friendly waitresses who seated us in the corner right next to the window facing Bridge road, ideal for people watching. The large menus where placed in front of us and we ordered drinks promptly being the usual long black along with an iced mocha with sadly no ice-cream as they didnt have any 🙁 The lengthily menu fitting all dietary requirements to a tee with a palo inspired theme, deciding what to order was challenging.
Our drinks arrived and the coffee was decent. The long black was thick and bitter but lacked texture. The iced mocha was excellent though even without the ice-cream. Perfect ratio of chocolate to coffee flavour with the most divine indulgence of thick chocolate syrup coating the glass. After clenching our thirst we where finally ready to order opting for the famous St. James bircher and the naughty beef burger with chips.
As we waited for our meals we observed the dishes that where being quipped out around us all looking elegant and well plated respecting the proudly sourced fresh produce. When our dishes arrived we where left speechless. The bircher looked to gorgeous to touch and the beef burger was oozing its meaty goodness all over the board. The beef burger featuring grass fed beef pattie with lettuce, tomato, beetroot, bacon, egg and mayonnaise accompanied with chips and added chilli jam was a classic dish knocked out of the park. The chips were crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle. The beef patty lacked seasoning but was cooked to moist perfection. The egg and bacon provided substance and the refreshing beetroot sealed the deal for an utterly perfectly crafted burger. The addition of the chilli jam complimented the beef and made for a great dipping sauce for the chips.
The famous St. James bircher muesli made up of berries, coconut organic yogurt, chia, flaxseeds, organic raw nuts, poached pear was a burst of vibrant texture and flavour. The perfectly poached pear was central to the dish soaked in aromatic spices. The base of the dish being the bircher was littered with chewy creamy oats, dried fruit, strands of coconut and seeds. The addition of the light fluffy coconut yoghurt ensured it wasnt to sweet and the berries provided a pop of acidic flavour. The nuts where plentiful adding a crunchy aspect to the outstanding dish.
St. James is an excellent cafe run by amazingly friendly staff, serving high quality food in a family friendly comfortable environment. The coffee could be improved but the accommodating staff and hospitable service certainly ensures customers leave with a full belly after a pleasant dining experience.
2.5
This should be getting a better rating however two failures on the one visit really disappointed.
Unclean cutlery should not be allowed to happen and mediocre staff attitudes have no place.
Coffees are good.
